We went to Drake's ENT today and he told us that Drake is doing really well and he thinks that he is getting really close to not needing the trach for breathing issues!! Also, we have been told from the start that Drake would need some airway reconstruction because he had nearly no cartilidge in his airway at all. Well the doc said that he doesn't think that will be necessary seeing how far Drake has come on his own!!
I do have to bring myself back to reality, though, because he will still need the trach until he can swallow - we still suction a lot of his saliva out of his trach. But just knowing that his airway has come so far is a huge relief!
Thanks for reading!
