He won't wear shoes...

at all.  We put them on he cries, rubs his feet together until they come off and chucks them across the room followed by laughter. I need ideas on how to get him to keep these shoes on his feet. Please please help.

Re: He won't wear shoes...

  • What kind of shoes are you using? Will he wear shoes that are more like slippers? (Like Robeez.)

  • Did you just start putting them on him? I was afraid of this so I always put shoes on her at least some of the time from when she was little. I would as the PP said, get the most slipper like shoes possible and start from there.

  • It's any type - at first it was socks  not it's slippers, sneakers and  boots.  I know they are the right size and width because we had him fitted at the store.
  • Is he walking?  I could not get shoes on ds until he started walking.
  • Joseph was 17m before I could keep shoes on his feet. He has just, at 20m, started to like his shoes and not resist them. Why? Because he thinks they are boots, like Boots wears on Dora.

In the interest of keeping his feet warm and covered before, I would put socks on him, then black, white or red tights ($5 at Walmart in a 3-pack), then his pants. He couldn't get them off and his feet stayed toasty.

  • Yup he is walking and the Pedi.  said he has to wear shoes now since it is getting cold here.  I am  glad to here I am not the only one who faced this battle so I will just keep going with it. Thanks :)
  • for me, we don't wear shoes in the house but socks are an uphill battle for sure. since they're not absolutely necessary in the house, i won't fight them if they take them off but when we're out of the house, socks and shoes are an absolute must. how do i keep them on? double knots. they need them for orthopedic support but they also need them to keep their feel clean! if, for example, we're playing outside or at the park and either one takes the shoes off? well then they need to have a time out from playing. continued refusal? we go home. it's as simple as that.
