3rd Trimester

6.3lbs at 33 weeks?!

I went to the doctor yesterday for my 33 week appointment and they did an ultrasound because I am measuring big.  They measured her at 6.3lbs already!  In the ultrasound you could already see her chubby cheeks!!

Doc told me to mentally prepare myself for a c-section, unless she comes early.  Let's hope for a little early!  She's already head down and I REALLY want to have her vaginally! :(

  • Holy Cow!!! sorry... lol

  • U/s can be off by a pound either way, so maybe she is 5.3!  I will say a prayer she comes early, but not too early.  I want to have a vaginal delivery soooo badly so I understand your concern.

  • You never know, they are only estimating the weight of the baby.
  • You don't have to have a c-section.  Just investigate your options before giving in to that just because they think your baby is "too big."  I have known too many people that this happens to and then they deliver an average size baby.
  • Wow! I know those things can be off...I've heard of people being induced because they thought the baby was too big and then they end up with 6-7 lb babies.

Still, that seems really big for 33 weeks!

I think I may be in your position when I eventually get a growth u/s nearer the end...my LO has been measuring bigger than his gestational age

  • Wow! I hope that the ultrasound was off in weight for you! GL though!

  • i had my ultrasound yesterday & he measured 5.5 lbs at 34.5 weeks

the tech also mentioned that they look chubbier on the ultrasound because they are surrounded by water ... maybe shes not that big yet ?

dont worry you'll do fine! GL!

  • I had a 7lb baby at my 34wk u/s. They told me that I would more then likely need a c-section. I don't want one.. They are doing another at 37th wks if I make it that far. I have been having pre-term labor issues and dilating. But that means nothing still. If at 37wks he is even bigger they are saying that they will do an amnio and take him if he is ready. Amnio's can be wrong as well. My sister was induced with my nephew at 36wks because of his size and head size (which my LO also has a large head) and he came out not be able to breath on his own for about 9hours he was on O2. And instead of weighing 9lbs something oz like they thought he was like 7lbs 6oz! Not big at all. Good Luck to you :)

  • I know women who have had 9/10 pound babies with no c section.  My prayers are with you.

Even if she is 5.3 this is still pretty big. I googled the average at 32w and it was 3.75lbs. My son was measuring 5lbs at 32. I'm glad I'm having a repeat section. This kid is going to be big. My first son was 6lbs 5oz at birth.

People can say it doesn't matter if you push a 6lb or a 9lb out but I can't bring myself to believe that:)

  • DS measured 7 lbs 3 oz at our 33 week u/s.  I was supposed to come back at 37 weeks for another u/s, and get scheduled for a c/s if the growth continued.  I ended up delivering naturally at 36w3d...he weighed 7 lbs 12 oz and was perfectly healthy.  Try not to worry...the u/s might not be accurate, or you may go early, or you may just be able to vaginally deliver a big baby!  GL!
  • My baby has been measuring big this entire time too.  I've been prepped mentally for a c-section.  I refuse not to try vaginally first though.  I'll be induced on Friday and the doctor said she'll only let me push for 1 hour (compared to 3 hr if the baby was smaller) before going for the c-section.  At 39 weeks, baby measured at 8 lb 6 oz, but the u/s tech said this was +/- 20 oz.  Head measured in the 95th percentile.  Ouch!
  • Wow!  Good Luck!
