chloeelyn:we switched because I didnt want to lug him
around anymore. My friends 11 month old is 17 pounds and still in his
infant seat! Hilarious. We bought 2 britax blvds and installed them
asap!
Ok first of all, the idea that "I don't want to lug him around anymore" or "he's to heavy to carry" is a really really stupid reason to switch from an infant seat to a convertible. When your baby is in the convertible, do you take the carseat out of the car? NO. So leave the infant seat in the car and take the baby out...duh.
And my son is 21.5 lbs and still in an infant seat. WTF is so hilarious about that? He was 17 lbs at 5 months and in it then....
ETA: I see nothing wrong with switching to a convertible seat whenever you feel like it. My point is that saying your child is too heavy to carry is a dumb reason to make the switch, and making fun of people who still use the infant seat up to the maximum weight limit is lame.
Re: ::insert raised eyebrow emoticon here::
meh, that's the reason why we switched. he was heavy, i was tired of carrying him around in the infant seat, and he would throw a fit if i would try to put him in it in the car. call me lazy, but it's what worked for us.
besides, he was getting too long for the infant seat anyway.
You know what is actually hilarious?
The thought that someone doesn't understand that you don't have to carry the infant seat anywhere. You can leave it right.where.it.is!!!
ITA & I'd like to add - you don't really even NEED an "infant seat" to begin with - waste of money, in my opinion. We started with a convertible (5-40lb) and when she outgrows it, then we'll move to the next level. Whenever I brought her anywhere she was either in the stroller or sling.
This EXACTLY.
