2nd Trimester

My 3-year-old daughter has h1n1 :-(

We just found out today that she has h1n1.  The poor little thing.  I'm really worried, though, because they aren't going to give her any tamiflu or anything b/c she is not "high risk".  Nevermind the fact that I am PREGNANT and DIABETIC and her sole care giver, since my husband is out of town....and oh yeah, we have a freakin' 1 year old.  I'm freaking out :-(

  • If you're concerned get a second opinion.

  • Thats crazy!, I would go back to the Dr. and demand something...So many kids have died from the H1N1 already......Dumb doctors!!!...
  • I would go see another doctor.  A nestie's son from my local board was just diagnosed with h1n1 & they weren't going to give him anything for it because he wasn't high risk until she told them that she is pregnant.  They the immediately gave him medicine & also prescribed her Tamiflu & told her to start on it immediately.  Please get a second opinion.  I hope your DD feels better soon & I hope you & your other DC stay well.

  • I'm so sorry, I'd make sure they know you are high risk and hopefully they will reassess. Though I think there's a window where tamiflu is effective, maybe she's past that point?  Regardless they should give you more information.

  • I think you should get a second opinion.  I also think you should call your OB about your contact with H1N1 so they can decide if you need to be on tamiflu for preventative measures.

  • Get a second opinion.... tomorrow if you can.  Double-check with your OB to see if you should be on Tamiflu prophylactically, since you already know your DD has H1N1.  Check about dosing the baby, too, because infants can get the flu too.  Hope everyone feels better or stays well!

From everything I have read (and learned from my doctor) Tamiflu is only effective if taken in the first 48 hours of the onset of symptoms. So, it is entirely possible that Tamiflu would do nothing for OP's daughter.

You can check with your OB about Tamiflu, but you shouldn't take it unless you are having symptoms.

  • I hope she gets better really soon!

  • That's rough.  I'm keeping you guys in my thoughts. I hope she feels better soon.
