Do you take your shoes off in house?

DH and I both work at a hospital, so I can only imagine what we bring home on our shoes. I am terrified that if I leave my shoes outside though, a bug will crawl in them. So when I get home I immediately go to my room and put my shoes in the closet. DH however sees nothing wrong with leaving his shoes all over the house. I'm constantly chasing after DS trying to get the DH's dirty shoes away from him.

I'm looking for ideas of what to do with our shoes. A friend mentioned leaving a big plastic container with lid outside his front door where he and his wife put their shoes. What other ideas do you have? What do you do in your house?

  • I do...for the most part, I asked DH to make me a shoe box with a lid to keep on our front porch, it will look like a toy box, but big enough to fit all of our shoes in.

  • Yes, we take them off when we come indoors.  We normally enter through the garage, and we have a big Rubbermaid storage bin right outside the door (inside the garage) that we put them in/near.

  • We have a small area rug near our hall closet when you first walk in and that's where we keep our shoes.

  • We take our shoes off in our home. We leave them in the garage or at the front door.  We usually have to ask our friends and family to do the same. It definately helps keeps all the dirt and grime out.

This, DH puts his hospital shoes in the closet and I leave mine on the rug. DS hasn't figured out that he can go up there, when he does, we might just get a swinging gate for it.

  • We have a carpet right next to our front door where we put all of our shoes.  To make it easier to get them on and off we also have a bench in our front hall.

  • I would at least take them off outside and carry them up to your bedroom.  Or what about leaving your "work" shoes in your car and changing into a part of "home" shoes before coming into the house?

We have a covered porch with a big storage closet, so we leave all our shoes there.

  • Do you have room for a little bench inside the house close to the door? This is what we have and our shoes go under the bench. We also have hooks above the bench for coats.

    This.

  • i work in the hospital too and i take my shoes off at the door. we have a closet and they're just in there
  • We have a shoe rack in our entryway (right when you walk in the front door) and that's where we keep all of our shoes. We also ask visitors to take their shoes off. I have no idea where we'll keep our shoes when DD starts crawling though! We'll have to think of something else!
