3rd Trimester

Would you be ready for your baby today?

Every time I read a post about someone having her baby early, I think that I am so not ready!

We already have a child, so it's not about the idea of having a baby. It's more that the nursery isn't done, carseat isn't installed, haven't pulled DS #1's clothes out of storage, still haven't done enough prep for natural childbirth and want to re-read my breastfeeding book. And we can't agree on a name! Probably because DS #1 was born 2 weeks late, I feel like I have all the time in the world. But every time I read a story of a baby coming early, I think of all I have left to do. Having been through it already, I know we'd get through it but I'd like to feel a little more prepared.

So, are you ready?!?

Re: Would you be ready for your baby today?

  • Noooo way.

I hope I can be "emergency" ready in a couple of weeks here...

  • i would sya i just got ready this past week.
  • we'd manage. DH could install the carseat while I'm at the hospital and get the clothes from DS1 out of the attic.
  • Yeah I think so!! Smile
  • I am so not ready to have this baby today, tomorrow, or anything more then a week early. I'm read those tell DH and he just looks at me and then the belly and says NO! He's very worried about the baby coming "early and not being health" and doesn't understand that as of 37weeks baby isn't "early" any more but rather full term. He just keeps telling me 11/25 is this baby's birthday. I can't agree more, I just hope LO decides that day works for him.

  • Yes!!!  But I am 41 weeks today...

  • Not even close. We haven't picked up the crib we ordered. I haven't had my shower. We decided to wait until after my shower to purchase anything else we'd need. I'm sure it wouldn't be a big deal. I have some clothes here, we could pick up some diapers/wipes, and LO could sleep in bed with me until we got everything else ready. We would have to pick up a car seat on the way to the hospital, though! (:
  • Nope.?

But there is always a frantic run to Target that can be made I suppose... (In the event that he decides to come early...)?

  • No way Jose! We still need a car seat and mattress for the crib. And his clothes haven't been washed yet. I am hoping he's a late baby because I am soooo nervous!
  • No and what is worse is I am on strict bed rest and can't do anything to get done either. I am relying on my H and my sister and mom to help me get ready. My crib is not here and my shower is not for another 2 weeks.

I could be induced any moment now (although my doctors goal is to not induce me until 32 weeks or later) If he does come early, we will be scrambling to buy the car seat, get it installed and everything else.

It all snuck up on me way too quick!

A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

  • Our carseat was finally delivered Friday, and installed yesterday.  So I can say...YES! We are ready. Everything else is small stuff - just as long as the baby can come home with us!

(I did finally wash all bedding and clothes last week too, so we're honestly all set. All I haven't really done is wash/sterilize bottles.)

  • No way.  We are moving out of our apartment this week into a house (yay!) so we still have to put together the nursery.  I haven't had any baby showers yet (1st one is in 2 weeks) so the things we have for the baby right now is a crib and 3 little outfits.  Definately not ready.

  • This is the state of my family room... right this second.  Do we look ready?  Not so much :)

Mom to 2 healthy boys, and a baby girl in Heaven. Heard her heartbeat on 7/18, heartbeat was gone on 7/20. Miss you forever.
  • Other than running a vacuum through the house, yea I think we're pretty much ready.
  • Not remotely close.

But we still have 11+ weeks.

Okay, that has got to be really tough. In reality, so many of these things don't *need* to be done before baby arrives (though it sure would be nice!). To take the pressure off yourself, I would get the carseat now and have it installed, and figure out where your baby is going to sleep when he/she comes home. Good luck!

  • Our Dr said my next milestone is 34 weeks and he would not prevent labor after that.  I almost had a panic attack; 4 weeks.  Keira you can not come until December, mommy is definately not ready!
  • We aren't ready now, but could be in a pinch.  Car seat still needs to be installed, but DH could do it and a quick run to Target to get wipes, baby bath toiletries, and bottles and I think we'd be set.
  • Thanks to our shower yesterday we have everything we physicially need. But the car seat needs to be installed. So if an emergency happens I guess we'd be ready, especially since he'll probably be in the NICU for at least a week.

  • I just got off bed rest this week and made a mad rush to get everything ready! Before this week I didn't have a crib and her room was just empty with storage boxes of DH stuff. The only baby item I owned was some clothing.

I was on bedrest for Pre term labor and I was told "she could come anytime" as soon as I get off my meds and can stand again so I felt I had to get my sh*t together ASAP.

  • Not even close.  To be honest, I could be in labor and still not be ready.  Not a matter of procrastination, but I always think "Should I pick this up?". "What about another ...?"  "This will be sooo much better if I do it this way..."

And then the whole being a new mommy... yup definately not ready for that one either!!!!!!!

  • The nursery isn't "done" but we have the necessities.
  • I was actually just thinking about this last night. As far as having "things" ready, yes... the co sleeper is set up, car seat installed, clothes washed, bag packed, etc. But mentally ready--no way! I guess I have been looking at my EDD as the earliest she will be here, and never really thought about the possibility of her coming earlier than that--so all of the posts about early arrivals has been a bit of a wake up call for me... if that makes any sense.

  • I have been ready since they told me at 36w2d that I was 3cms dilated.

Everyone keeps asking what we need, and I say "Nothing!"

Now it's just an impatient waiting game.

  • Yes. It would be a tiny scramble, but not so bad now that we know how very little a newborn really needs.
  • I think so! We have all of his needs, everything is washed / sterilized, stuff for me for after he arrives and I just stocked the freezer and cabinet today w/ DH friendly meals. C'mon out kid! =)

  • Not really. I feel like there's a lot more to learn in lamaze class, car seat isn't installed, hospital bag not fully packed, & my last shower isn't until next weekend.  Ask me in a week & a half & the answer would be yes.  But we do have the crib set up, & do have a car seat, so I guess we could manage.
  • Could I BE any more ready?
Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • There are only minor things we need, like a pnp, but the crib is all set up and ready.  The car seat is not installed, but that can be done while I'm in the hospital.  We had our shower last week, so we have just about everything we need.   I have yet to wash clothes because 1) I'm sick and 2) we have yet to get a dresser.  The hospital bag has not been packed, but again, that's something that could be done after the fact.  If he decided to come today...although early....we'd be ready for him.
  • We finally installed the car seat base in my car and figured out how to work the travel system today, so I feel ready.  The nursery is ready too.  The only thing that is not ready is my hospital bag.

I tried to pack baby's bag today but we still don't have a coming home outfit.  In fact, we hardly have any clothes at all.  I'm thinking that will change at my work shower this week, since my co-worker has been telling me that she's gone crazy shopping for clothes, but if not, clothes are easy to find once LO gets here, esp. since we'll be able to buy gender specific at that point.  So yeah, we're ready.

  • You bet your butt I am.  I am so sore these days I can hardly imagine another 2.5-3.5 weeks of this.  Our little one is considered term now and I say come out and meet us anytime my little man.  I still have a couple of nursery decoration projects that I would like to finish before Carter comes, but if I don't get them done, it's not like he's going to remember them being added to the nursery after his arrival.

  • The only thing that we absolutely need at this point is a carseat. We have everything else, the crib is set up, we have bottles, and clothes. All the other little things DH could run out and get (like baby medicine) if we had LO at this point.
  • I don't want her to be this early, but we have everything at home ready for her arrival.  Clothes are all washed, cloth diapers ready to go, nursery has been done for a few months.  We haven't installed the carseat, but it is in the garage  ready to be installed. DH and I have our niece and nephew frequently, so we are both carseat pros,  We are just waiting on our little girl to finish cooking!
  • Oh yes!  Infact, today would be a lovely day to have a baby!

I had some ptl signs at 35.5 weeks, so the week after that I quickly got myself organized.  There are still things that I can be working on (a few paintings in his room, knitting projects, etc), but as far as the basics go, everything is ready.

Now that I am ready, it probably means that this little guy will be late.

  • I am more than ready for my LO to be here.  We have been ready since about 35 weeks since I had a few signs that baby may come early. Now here I am still pregnant and the wait seems so much worse.  I really wish today was the day but somehow I see myself going past my due date.  I've given up hope that she will be here before then.
