We registered for and received the Safety First UltraSonic 360 from Target. It has a seal on the box that says something about being the hospitals #1 choice- not sure if that is true. Minnesota has extremely dry winters and I know we will use it often.
You live in NC?? A generally humid state...are you sure you need one? I'd wait. We live in Oregon and I think we used ours once or twice and we're less humid than where you are.
It is recommended that all babies rooms have a humidifier, regardless of how humid an area you live in. And lets not forget that winters, with the heat running, are extremely dry.
It is not recommended that you get a warm mist humidifier, as this heats the water and can be a burn hazard. The most recommended kinds are ultrasonic. The way it converts the water also stops the growth of bacteria. If it is used and cleaned regularly it won't grow mold.
Cool mist humidifiers can be big ol' tanks of bacteria and mold. And they because of this they usually require filters.
We've been guilty of buying the cute ones in the past, but quickly learned that they don't last long. And could be doing more harm then good.

on our registry because it made him laugh.
We got it.
But to my surprise it works really well and it's totally quiet! DH and I have been using it for the last few nights because our bedroom is so dry.
We have a warm/cool mist one. We actually bought it for ourselves, but Henry gets 1st dibs on it now.
Make sure you only use it as needed. If you use it all of the time it can cause mold to grow.
