If you can't handle your dog you probably shouldn't have a baby

My mom lives in a townhome so she has a backyard although its probably more like an over sized balcony with a bit of grass.

Went to my moms house tonight and heard the neighbors dog crying like someone was murdering it! It broke my heart. Went out there peeked over the fence he is the cutest thing with blue eyes and all, but is being forced to live in his own feces has no grass no dog house not even a blanket and a small bowl of dirty water! And I noticed he has a shock collar!  Then my mom informs me his human mommy is pregnant and that they always keep him outside! Seriously if you can't handle a dog probably best to hold off on the baby!

  • That kind of stuff ticks me off.   The poor dog doesn't understand why it is being made to all of the sudden live outside Tongue Tied

    I agree with you completely!

    This!

  • Call Animal Control.  If that dog does not have adequate shelter, food or water then it is animal abuse.

  • Oh no that's so sad.
  • You need to call animal control. That is completely unacceptable that the keep the dog like that. At least have animal control come out and look and make an assessment. SERIOUSLY. Please, for the animal's sake.
  • I told my mom I would call SPCA on them that is a form of animal cruelty! It rained for the past 2 days here and his backyard is still wet and he has NOTHING warm or dry to sit on?! I would cry like someone was murdering me too. Ugh some people

So please tell me you are really calling and not just saying that?

  • Definitely call animal control.  That poor pup :(
  •

Agreed with PP's.  That's an inhumane condition for that dog to be kept in.  They need access to shelter, fresh water, food, and a clean area.  Someone needs to intervene for that poor pup.

  • You can and should call your local humane society or animal control about this.  Most if not all counties will issue at least a warning if an animal doesn't have adequate food, water, or shelter, and living in feces with a tiny amount of dirty water definitely qualifies.  You can report it anonymously.  If you can do so without it causing drama, maybe consider taking a few quick photos.

I have absolutely zero respect for people who treat animals poorly.  There's just no excuse.  I'm also not a fan of people who dump all their pets at a shelter (or worse) the minute they get pregnant just because they don't want to deal with dogs/cats and a baby, but that's another post!

  • I couldn't imagine getting rid of my dog just because we're having a baby.  She was our "first baby" and the family wouldn't be right without her.
  • I already called but its after hours I will call again in the morning. they can think it was the neighbors on the other side since they've already complained once about him whining in the night. My mom had said she really wanted to call but was afraid to rock the boat. I was kind of surprised since my mom is an animal lover as well.

I know not all people are like this but for DH and I our pets were our first kids and are not only taken care of but spoiled rotten.

  • Oh that poor dog. That just breaks my heart. I just don't understand some people. Don't get a dog unless you can afford it and can afford to take care of it. I would go over and talk to the owner and if necessary call someone about it. That is animal cruelty.

  • thank you for calling the humane society, it is the only help that poor dog will have.  if they won't come, are you able to speak to them and offer to help them find a new home for the dog?  there is usually no-kill shelters, not sure where you live, but there has to be someone out there that will help you.

this is so sad and the dog is lucky you are going to help it.

    take care

  • Maybe I should buy Marley and Me and leave it on their doorstep! There was one pita of a dog and they still loved it no matter what Wink
  • I called animal control on our upstairs neighbors when we lived in our apartment. Their poor dog was on the balcony 24/7 and I'm not entirely convinced it was getting food and water.

    They took the dog away.

Unfortunately CPS also took their child away when we had to call them when we feared the mom was being beaten (unfortunately we were right).

People are crazy! Its sad though too. Why would you get a dog if you just plan on leaving it in the backyard with nothing to do, sleep on or eat?!

I am sure when I call back in the AM they will take him away my moms backyard smells disgusting because of all the dog poop and he cowards down when you call him almost like someone beats him and I DESPISE shock collars! Maybe if you trained him and made some effort a shock collar wouldn't be necessary?

Is your mom in an area served by the Inland Valley Humane Society?  One of the ladies I work with is on the board there, I can have this one fast tracked.

We live in Rancho Cucamonga so I am pretty sure they aren't the SPCA of our area.

  • Wow... I could not imagine ever doing what those people did.. I am glad you are calling and have called the animal people...

Man... I feel guilty when I leave my puppy on the porch for a couple hours when I go grocery shopping or something(and he always has water) I normally cave at the grocery store and get him a nice bone or a stuffed ducky because I guilt trip myself for leaving him out there. LOL(note that it gets very very humid during the day here and is not fun, but even though I know he loves it outside, I still feel bad. lol)

  • Call the human society!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  There are laws that animals have to have shelter, food, and clean water.... This may sound harsh, but if you don't report it and you know some form of abuse or neglect is taking place, you are contributing.  I am a firm believer in animal rights.  We use to live in a kinda bad area, and I had to report this kind of neglect All the Time.  You will feel sooooooooo much better when you know the dog is in a safe place.
  • how in the world could anyone do that do a poor animal?? My dogs are way over spoiled and get away with way too much, but they sure are LOVED! and taken very good care of, that is for sure!!! Those poor doggies, I definitely would have called animal control or something on that lady, that is not right at all!!?
