I have a friend who just got married on Oct. 3rd named Jennifer, who went on her honeymoon cruise and they came back on Sunday. Her first day back to work was yesterday, and she was driving to their house after work in the rain. She hydroplaned, went into a ditch, over corrected and hit a one-ton pick up truck with a flat bed head on. She was very blessed because there was a police officer very close by who pulled her out as her Explorer caught fire. The ambulance responded four minutes after the call came in, but she has some injuries. She was taken to Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville after going to a local hospital. (She was a Vanderbilt student, just graduated this year.) One leg is broken from her knee to her ankle, both bones, and it broke through the skin at a bad angle. She had surgery this morning on that, pins were put in one bone and the other will heal itself; they are just worried about the L-shaped laceration where it broke through getting any infection. Her pelvis was broken at the point it connects to her spine, she had surgery on that this afternoon; she has pins in her hip bones that will remain there forever and always. There is large laceration to her forehead, as well as glass, scrapes, and bruises all over her upper body. She has two places on her lungs that are probably from the air bag, as well as broken ribs. She has a long way to go, but we are all really optimistic. The doctors say she can't put any weight on the one leg for at least three months, but she could be facing six months of recovery. This is a lot for two newlyweds to go through, but her husband is just amazing. He has a very good attitude, and will do anything he can to take care of her "because she's worth it all". These are family friends of my family as well as my new married family (SIL was the MOH in the wedding), and the girl's mom was my third grade teacher. They are all sleep-deprived and really anxious to get her out of the trauma unit. We've been there tonight to visit, and will continue to go visit. Hopefully she'll get moved into a regular room tomorrow or Friday, but it's going to be tough as physical therapy is supposed to start tomorrow (wow?!).
Sorry this was so long, but I just really know they need all the thoughts and prayers they can get at this point. She's going to be fine, but it's a lot to go through. Thanks. :-)

T&P for your friend! Things like this accident serve as a reminder of how fragile we really are!
I'm glad they're starting PT so soon, the sooner she's moving the sooner she'll be better.
