Birthday Gift Ideas for a 3 yr Old

Chase's b-day is in about 3 weeks. I am at a total loss as to what to get him. I hate the fact that most things we buy him he is interested in for about 3 days and then they are just put in a basket. The other difficult thing is that Christmas is so soon after his b-day. We are getting both boys a lego table for Christmas. Obviously Parker won't be able to play with it for a while, but we want it to be a family toy.

He LOVES sports, but you can only buys so many balls, etc. I just don't know. I hate buying junk!

If anyone has some help/ideas/advice to offer I would really appreciate it.

    We're getting Ryan a soccer goal (he loves to kick balls).  I also like to buy games for 3 year olds (cootie, break the ice, antz in your pants, etc).   Playdough is fun - -- an art easel --- etc.
    Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.

    How about signing him up for  a sports team as a present?  We do ours at the Y down on W.  It's on Saturdays at 9:15, a different sport every month.  Child membership at the Y is $10/month, and the sports class costs $25 on top of that.  So it's not too too bad.

    I'm big on books, especially activity type books, so something like that might be good.

    I got a good deal on a Leapster a while back that I will probably give B for her birthday.  She also loves my neighbor's Big Wheel so I may get her one of her own.  Either that or a bike with training wheels - she is pretty tall.

    Good luck! Can you believe they will be 3 so soon? Ack!

    We're getting Em books and a plasma car.  She rode one at a friend's birthday and loved it.  We're thinking a bike w/ training wheels for christmas.  We go outside to walk/ride almost daily so we know she'll use these.

    Can't believe they are turning 3!! Just this month he seemed to have lost all things toddler and is now a little boy :( It had to happen sometime.

    I think we will think about a bike. That is a great idea!

    Peyton has a 3 wheel scooter that he loves!  I bought him a helmet at Target and he has the best time.

    I always say puzzles but our little guy loves his easel too!  He has the magnetic leap frog alphabet set and uses the other side for drawing.  He can spend hours there!!
