1st Trimester

can you go on a cruise when your pg?

My family is planning a holiday vaca and they are talking about going on a cruise.    I'll be 20-22ish weeks. I didn't think it was a problem, but today my girlfriend told me they won't let a pregnant woman on a cruise ship bc there are no medical facilities on the ship if anything were to happen.

Does anyone have any factual info about pregnant woman and crusies?

TIA!

  • No clue and too lazy to google. I'd call my doctor about that one.

  • I would just call the cruise line and ask them! I know theres medical staff on board but I doubt there equiped for an early labor or anything serious.

  • Check with the cruise line you are going on but most major lines (Royal Caribbean, Carnival, etc) allow women but only until a certain point (23 or 24 weeks?). You'll want to make sure you have a doctors note to back up how far along you are.

  • It depends on the cruise line - check with whichever company you are considering. I think it's usually 24 weeks.

  • Here's what I found search Carnivals commonly asked questions.

Carnival's policy regarding guests who are pregnant:

Guests who are 24 weeks or more into their pregnancy on the date of disembarkation will not be allowed to sail. Pregnant women less than 24 weeks must submit, prior to departure, Carnival's Pregnancy Certification Form, which must be completed and signed by the guest's physician. On the Pregnancy Certificate Form, the attending physician will be required to certify the gestational period and that the expecting mother is fit to sail.

  • I think up to 24 weeks.

  • When I was looking into them last year, all of them wouldn't allow you to go on after 24 weeks.

  • I went on a cruise when I was 21 weeks pregnant.  I was fine.  The cruise line won't let you go without a note from your doctor.  It has to say how many weeks pregnant you will be on the cruise and that you are cleared medically.  We went on a Carnival cruise and they sent me a form to bring to the doctors.  Good Luck to you :)

  • I think it's 24 weeks...but definitely check with the cruiseline.

  • I can't speak for every cruise line but we went on one for honeymoon (when we conceived!) and there was a full  pharmacy and a mini hospital set up on board. It was a Costa Cruise out of Italy.
