Hi Ladies,
We're planning on EBF'g our LO and I'm wondering if any of you put little reminder cards in their hospital bassinet. I remember reading (Jack Newman??) about placing little cue cards so that the nurses never offer a bottle or pacifier. I had a breast reduction 9 years ago, so I want to work hard at developing my supply.
I think that this would be a good idea, just wondering how to word them and wondered if you had any experience,
TIA
Re: Signs for in-hospital bassinet.
My hospital had these that they put on the isolet. There were two - one said "I'm a breastfeed baby" and the other said "no pacifiers or bottles."
ETA: Also, as a pp said, I included in the birthplan and discussed it with the nurses during triage. In L&D and in the floor nurse assigned to my room confirmed this with me.
ROOM IN!!!
The truth is, what you don't see.... "doesn't happen" and no matter what your wishes are, someone can always stomp on them.
If you want to have success at BFing, rooming in will also help you get the baby to the breast every 2-3 hours.
FWIW- DD had a bottle in the NICU (less than an hour old) and I was at a pro BFing/"Baby Friendly" hospital.
When I caved and asked for an ounce of formula the nurse said "no".... LOL!! She came in and helped me latch her, and then we went with a paci.
A day later DD went back into the hospital and couldn't feed at the breast for 3 days and only had EBM in bottles.
Lots of strugles, but we are EBFing and going strong!
GL!!!!
