Weight gain after weaning?

Did anyone gain weight after they weaned?  Without a doubt BFing is the best diet I've ever been on.  I was able to lose all of my baby weight by my 2 week c-section check and I'm not actually thinner than I was before I got pregnant (thanks to that 25 pounds I gained within 19 seconds of getting married).  I'm paranoid that as soon as I quit nursing I'll gain a million pounds.

Re: Weight gain after weaning?

  • That's my fear too. Hopefully I won't still have such a huge appetite after weaning. Right now I can burn those calories off, but that'll change after weaning.

  • So far I haven't gained any.  I'm crossing my fingers that I don't!

  • It didn't make a difference for me.  I thought that I would notice a big difference when I weaned, but I didn't.  However, I was already watching what I ate and exercising a lot, so I just continued what I was already doing.  Also, I nursed until Nate was over 14 months old and by then he was only nursing once a day or every other day, so I think my body gradually got used to making less milk & my caloric needs were already adjusting.  IDK if that really makes a difference, but maybe it does.
  • i weaned from EPing about 1.5 months ago and haven't noticed any weight gain...i feel like i've even lost a lil bit more weight since weaning...i just watch what i eat but thats about it!

I think it does.  I nursed Savannah 'til 13.5 months and quit very gradually.  I know back when I was nursing every 1.5 - 2 hours (which she did for a long time) I was starving all the time.  Then as she nursed less frequently I was less hungry, so ate less.

  • I've heard that you actually retain some extra weight while you are nursing, as kind of a "reserve" for the baby.  Once I stopped BFing I lost another 10/15 lbs.  Still have about 10 more to go!!

You're probably losing weight from all of that walking you do with that fat friend of yours...hehe!  =)

  • i gained. BOO. though i DO think it's more related to the mirena than weaning... too many confounding factors to draw a clear conclusion.

  • I haven't stepped on a scale but I think I have gained a bit since weaning.  I am guilty of not exercising and not being that good about what I am eating right now though.  Sigh.  I feel like people probably see me and wonder if I'm pg again, but nope...it's just belly fat :(
