s/o: How do you sort laundry?

In the pajama post GHM mentioned that she likes to wash all pajamas together in one load and my first thought was, "That's crazy! You can't mix different colored pajamas together!" LOL

I sort by color- blues, blacks and greys are together and all khaki/ brown /olive green things are another load.  Bright colors like pink, purples, yellow, etc. are another separate load. All of my towels and cleaning rags are white so that they can be all washed together with bleach, white clothes are another separate load. I wouldn't dare wash white clothes with white rags- the horror! ;-)

Do you sort by color or by type (all pajamas together, baby clothes in one load, you and dh's clothes in separate loads, etc)?

Re: s/o: How do you sort laundry?

  • I must be lazy whites go in one and the rest in another load.  Why seperate the pj's from the rest?

  • I don't sort laundry. Never have.  (Is that bad?)

EDIT: Wait, I do a seperate load for towels that are used for cleaning the house - I guess that's sorting.

  • Whites and darks, that's it.  And only cold water just in case.  lol.
  • By color. Usually whites, lights, brights and darks, depending on how many millions of loads I have to do.

A lot of the time this is how it is in my house too lol

  • Whites

    Darks

    Colours

    Towels

    Sheets

  • Whites

    Brights (pink, red, etc)

    Darks (like jeans, black stuff)

    Towels

  • My loads:

    diapers

    towels

    darks

    reds

    whites

    pj's/underwear/socks

That way I don't have to do more than one load each. If I put underwear and pj's in with the respective colors, it would be too much per load and I'd have to do 2 loads of whites and darks.

  • Whites, towels, kids clothes, our (mine & DH) color clothes, Dh's work clothes.

I have never thought to sort them more by color than that. If they are new, I wash dark colors together and light colors together.

  • Whites, colors (minus jeans), jeans (they are a full load themselves), towels, bedding

All of my groups are a full load whenever I do laundry.

  • Whites (including towels)

    Socks, underwear, and pjs

    Everything else

Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • I do underclothes (socks, underwear, etc), jeans, dark shirts. I do reds, oranges, pinks together. Towels seperately.

  • I do whites, darks, and delicates for clothes.  I wash everything in cold so color doesn't really matte.  The delicates are mostly my clothes and Lila's clothes, a few things of MH's.

I wash sheets together and towels together.

I did Lila's clothes separately until she got a big girl bed.  I will do the baby's clothes separately once she's here, at least at first.

  • wowza you guys take laudry very very serious lol

  • Whites, darks, Sweaters, delicates, bedding, towels.  I think that is it.

  • holy cow, that's a lot of sorting.

I'll admit something else too... We converted the guest room into the "folding room" (it's right next to the laudryroom on the 2nd floor).  We go in there each morning to pick out our cloths.  And we only transfer the folded clothes to our closets/drawers when company stays over.  hahaha, that's my dirty little secret that I've never told anyone.

  • Wow, I am a lazy launderer. All of the girls' clothes go in together, inlcuding their towels. If there's something new and very bright, I might separate it, but that doesn't happen that often. I separate DH's and my clothes into darks and lights, and our towels are separate (unless there's just a few and they can fit with our stuff). Kitchen towels are separate. That's it!
  • whites

    towels

    bedding

    color- warm

colors- cold- sometimes light and darks depending on the amount

    DS clothes

    DD clothes

  • one white one darks/colors. lol. that's it.
  • All of DS's clothes get washed together. I sort our DH & I's into 3 piles- whites, colors, jeans. Then do all towells and sheets seperate too.
  • I do all of DS clothing together and then usually one light (whites, light greys, tans, pinks) and one dark (black, brown, dark grey) for DH and I.  I always wash pants, towels and sheets separate from everything else.

  • towels go together b/c I throw vinegar in with them

    whites

    colors

    delicates

  • Dh's white undershirts and work shirts (its a full load every week)

    light colored - cold wash

light colored - hot wash (underwear, socks, towels - the yucky stuff)

    dark colored - cold wash

dark colored - hot wash (underwear, socks, towels - the yucky stuff)

Geez, is it sanitary to not wash underwear and such in hot water?  That would be a nice timesaver!

    This too.
  • Unless they've never been washed, I never seperate by colors.  I wash all the kids' clothes together - sorted by "needs to be stain treated" and "no stain treating needed."

Usually I wash my clothes alone, but if I have small loads I may mix the kids and mine.

Towels and sheets and other household laundry are all washed separately. I don't like the thought of my underwear hanging out with a kitchen rag.  Ew.

DH does his own laundry and tends to just throw everything in together.

  • I sort by white/rags, lights, and darks.  I don't care if rags that are used to wipe off the counter go in the same load as, say, one of DH's white undershirts, since they go in on hot and are usually bleached.  If I have a small load of lights and darks, I'll usually throw them both together on cold.
  • Darks, lights, whites and towels.
