Moving to MT?

Hi Ladies,

I hope you don't mind me crashing the board - I'm not actually pregnant, but I didn't see any posts on The Nest MT board.  And DH and are going to start TTC in a few months, anyway.

The reason I am writing is that DH has applied for a job at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls.  I've mostly lived in or near big cities all of my life, and while it sounds exciting to move out to the beautiful west, I'm also a little nervous.

What are your thoughts about MT life?  Do you like it?

Thanks in advance, and happy and healthy pregnancies to all of you!

Re: Moving to MT?

  • Hi, there.  My DH & I just moved to Kalispell from Seattle.  But my husband grew up in Great Falls -- which is larger than Kalispell.  I really expected to find myself in the middle of nowhere and in small-town America (having never lived in MT before) and have been pleasantly surprised with all the amenities and shopping and services that I was used to in the "big city".  In fact, I'm starting to think of this place as more of a "rural suburbia" than anything else.

I would expect that you'd find a similar experience in Great Falls -- maybe even a better one since it's a larger city.

    Hope that helps!

  • I'm a Montana Girl... and just love it here.  We live in eastern MT, much more rural than Great Falls, but we want for nothing.  We might have to drive out of town for a movie, but those end up being our date nights.  And there is something fun about driving to go shopping or to go try out a restaurant you've heard of.  You might find things that had become habitual becoming events.

And in Great Falls, you are in a great central location that you could really explore this big ol' state if you wanted to!

  • I hope you love MT! I've been here most of my life.  My hubby and I are going to start TTC in a few months as well!  The winters can be rough, and I'm sure you noticed that Great Falls is windy!  The summers are amazing here!  Best of luck in Great Falls. Try is visit Missoula (that is where I have been for the last 6 years), it's really great!
