DS lost weight. (long)

We just got back from the 4 month appt, and DS has lost a little over a pound from his 2 month one.

I've been feeling like something wasn't quite right with his weight for the past few weeks, but everyone around told me I was being crazy, that he was just long and lean and there was nothing wrong. Now I wonder if I should have just listened to my gut and brought him to the dr sooner.

The weird thing is, he still grew in length and head circ, has been having a normal number of wet diapers and has meet all of his developmental milestones and then some. He's active and alert when awake, and we even heard him laugh a few times. The pedi was confused, but didn't seem overly concerned, which I guess is good. We have a follow-up in two weeks.

I just feel like a failure. I EBF, so I never really know how much he's getting, but I can hear him gulping away while eating, and I pump a normal amount (4-5 oz). I had oversupply issues in the beginning, and I don't think my supply is low....he's been STTN for awhile now, but he cut out those feedings himself, I would certainly feed him at night if he wanted to eat.

Since I've been a little concerned, I've started to feed him at least every two hours during the day, even before he acts hungry. I'm starting to wonder if I should up that even more...the dr didn't think him dropping the night feedings would cause weight loss, and just wants me to keep doing what I've been doing, but it seems weird not to do anything...

Has this happened to anyone else?

DS never lost weight but he has a hard time gaining weight. He gains less than 2 pounds every 2 months. When I went in for DS's 4 month appt. they told me to feed him every 2 hours and DS wasnt used to that but we did it anyways. He gained 12 oz. in 2 weeks. I was happy because it was working. After a while he hated to eat and wasnt hungry every 2 hours and it was such a nighmare because DS wasnt eating. So we finally gave up and just started on his schedule. Ever since then he has moved up an ounce each feeding and takes about 5-6 bottles a day and we have started solids. We have his 6 month appt. tomorrow and i am excited to see if he has gained weight or not. I would not worry. He will eat when he eats and really that is all you can do. Did the pedi tell you to start solids soon? That would give him more calorie intake. GL. I know its frustrating and upsetting but things will get better.

I'm having a similar issue. I feel that DD is not gaining weight and she is eating less. I am told that by now she should be taking in more at each feeding and it is normal for the feedings to be shorter. She still eats twice during the night, though. She also has some reflux issues, so I worry that is causing her to dislike nursing. I also had oversupply issues and hindmilk/foremilk imbalance so I worry my supply is weird. I don't know, either.

I had the SAME exact problem. DS was 13lbs 1oz at his 2month appt and then at 4 months he was 12lbs 15.5oz, my pedi made me pump exclusively for 2 days to see how much he had. (he always had enough wet diapers and everything) I pumped enough for him, we just figured he is a very hungry baby - I started him on cereal at 4 months because of this and he has been gaining weight ever since. I started with 1tbsp of cereal a day and we are now on 5tbsp 2xday, it is not interfering with his drinking -its just adding a little more. I have also started supplementing with formula, 1 or 2 bottles a day - depending on the day. I was against this first - but because DS is getting very nosey and interested in other things when I try to nurse, this just put me at ease to make sure he was getting enough and to stop my worrying. I am sure everything will work out - GL

My DD is slow to gain weight - about a pound per month. I also had oversupply issues. Hopefully she is gaining enough.
