Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Dr Browns Nipple question

DS is still using the level 1 nipples, when should I switch to level 2? TIA

Re: Dr Browns Nipple question

  • My son is still using #1's.  I was thinking it was 6 months, but I don't know.  I think it matters more how they handle the flow.

  • My DD is still using level 1 nipples. I asked the pedi about it and she said DD probably won't be ready until closer to 6 months. DD doesn't act like she is having trouble getting anything out of the bottle at this time so I think we are just staying with level 1 for now.
  • I think it depends on the baby. We switched to size 2 nipples when he was 6 or 7 weeks old. He would get angry and fussy because he couldn't get the milk he wanted out fast enough. He does well on the size 2 nipples with no choking or leaking out of his mouth.

  • We just changed to Level 2 nipples last week.  When I went to BRU to buy more nipples (I have found that the down side to having tons of bottles is having to buy tons of nipples when you go up a level) it said on the Level 2 container - for 3+months.  I only switched because DD seemed to be getting frustrated and leaving formula in bottles even though she was still hungry.  The Level 3 container said 6+months, but obviously I'm going to hold off on that since we just switched to Level 2.
  • We switched to Level 2 at 2 months because they were getting frustrated and taking forever to eat. They did great right away. We have experimented with Level 3 but they can only handle it when they are wide awake. If they are sleepy, it is a mess. So we are waiting a month to try again.
  • I switched to the level 2 at 3 months.  LO was really sucking hard with the 1.  The back of the nipple pack has a chart on ages: Level 1-0-3,level 2 3-6 etc. but I think it all depends on teh baby.

  • We just made the switch to level 2 but according to their packaging it says level 2 is for 3 months and up & I believe it said level 3 could start at 6 months but that seemed crazy to me.

    Michelle?

  • We just switched DS this weekend.  He was taking forever with the Level 1s and getting fussy while eating, which apparently are signs they are ready to move up a size (according to the nurse who runs the new mom group I go to).  So far he has done well with the 2s-eating much faster and not leaking a lot out of his mouth.
  • If you are still BFing, have you moved up a level?  Our LO is 4 months old & we do a combo of BF and FF.  I still have her ay level 1 since I've heard it was the closest to BFing.  Should I switch to 2??
