Cocoa butter and caffiene

I think I read somewhere that pregnant women shouldn't use cocoa butter because the skin absorbs caffiene out of it or something. Have any of you asked your doctor about it? I got a cocoa butter soap bar in a gift set with other stuff and I don't want to use the soap if we're not supposed to use it.

Also, everywhere on my torso has been really tichy and I used an oil spray out of the same gift set and it works wonders (as long as you don't mind the smell of canola oil and being a little greasy).

This is the oil stuff...

Re: Cocoa butter and caffiene

  • I've never heard anything about cocoa butter!

  • LMAO. There is no caffeine in cocoa butter.
  • I've never heard that about cocoa butter. However I stopped using it because I didn't think it was doing much and the smell was making me sick. I now use Burt's Bees Mama Bee Belly Balm and love it! It is a little greasy but I put it on before bed and it does a great job.
  • I mentioned it on here recently because another bumpie posted a PSA saying her OB said that it was possible. I dunno...2nd or 3rd hand story here, but I personally use the Mama Bee's oil. It's wonderful!

I use the Mama Bee Oil in the shower and I LOVE it.  I used it with dd and no stretch marks.  I am hoping I did not just jinx myself and it works just as great this time.  I have the belly balm also, but have only used that a couple of times because of using the oil.

  • i heard that on here about cb + caffeine. dunno the validity of it. i use a regular lotion with a cocoa butter base.

  • I don't know about the caffiene. Someone on here did post about it. I have never used cocoa butter lotion, instead I like the Burts Bees Belly thing in the little tin or I recently found Aveeno moisturizing creamy oil and love it. Not geasy at all so I use it in the mornings.
  • I dunno the validity of that, but it sounds kind of silly.  Why would they sell it at maternity stores then?  I bought some at Motherhood, but I don't like it.  The smell makes me gag...
  • Honestly, I can't imagine it's enough to do any harm unless you are going to eat the stuff.

I use cocoa butter daily AND my OB actually suggested I drink limited caffiene daily to help with my migraines.  Since I used excederine before being pregnant, he said that tylenol with the caffiene would work to help them and long as I limit it to one 12 oz can a day.

You'd be more likely to do damage with too much chocolate than with cocoa butter lotion.  And that would take a lot of chocolate....

  • I use a combo of cocoa butter and almond oil, and I love it!  the smell is great (probably because of the almond oil) and it keeps me itch free all day!
