Babies: 3 - 6 Months

XP: What words do you use for private parts?

Posted this on 6-12 also - wondering what you ladies do as well. I tend to always say "lady bits/parts" when changing DD. As in, "ok we have to clean your lady bits now..."

What terms do you use - if any - with your LOs?

  • If I say anything I use their proper names.

  • penis. I will only use the proper terms with him.

  • I use the proper name. Penis, scrotum, vagina, breasts ... so forth.

At this point ... 5 months ... I don't really have conversations with him about his penis.

This. I see no reason to make it "cute."

  • Penis. I remember when I was a little girl and I called it a "cookie" for the longest time. One day my mom said that we can't call it that, that it's a vagina. I remember feeling like I did something wrong by calling it "cookie" (which now as an adult I find just creepy) but I don't want my son to be ashamed of his penis.

This. Especially now that DS is talking.

My friend's children (5 and 7) refer to the penis as a "Mushroom" or a "Wee-Wee" and their mom is a nurse Indifferent

Ummm, yeah, no thanks - I'll stick the proper terms.

  • I say "lady bits" too.  I think it's a nice medium ground between highly technical and a baby name for it.

Tuckus or bum for butt because I think it's funny.

  • i usually say proper names for things. i do use all sorts of names, however, like hiney or tushy for butt..but thats more of a funny thing. if I ever was going to use another word i would say private parts..
  • Eh. I call it his penis--ususally with a little song. Balls. Butt. I tell DH to "Pop out the turtle" when bathing him LOL.I don't get all worked up over this, either way. He can call it whatever he wants when he's old enough to have a preference. Well, I don't think I'd like it if he called his *** or anything along those lines...

ETA: Before anyone asks, DS has some extra skin on his penis, so we have to PIB when we bathe him.

This. My parents called everything a bird. Drives me nuts.

  • Hmmm...I had never thought of it being a "bad" thing for it to be cutsey, and so I've been saying VV, like one would say PP for a boy....maybe I have to rethink this...
  • We usually just say bits, but when he's old enough to understand what we're referring to I'm sure we'll use more scientifically sound words :p?

  • Use the real words.
"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies. God damn it, you've got to be kind." - Kurt Vonnegut

    It's not. Just preference :)

  • I use the proper names as well.  For her bottom, I just say bottom (obviously).  I used to call it a hoo-hah but I have since stopped that!  I hate all the other words used for the lady parts, especially the one that is synonymous to a cat and vajayjay.  She'll grow up using the real words.
