BF moms: any tips on increasing production?

My DD will be 4 months next week and I feel like I am barely able to keep up with her! I pump what I can, yet still never have more than 1-2 bottles extra. What can I do??

  • There are lots of things you can try - oatmeal, lactation cookies, mothers milk tea, fenugreek, blessed thistle, drink plenty of water & pump after feedings.

  • I have the same delema...I really don't want to take the fena...whatever it's called b/c I don't want to smell like maple syrup!  I heard mother's milk works.  It's a tea but someone said it tastes like black licorace so maybe do half that and half another tea.

  • https://kellymom.com/ also has lots of great info & the breastfeeding board on here is really helpful too. I hope this helps :)
  • Are you working? How often are you pumping? Is every 2 hours feasible? Also, can you see a LC and is DD satisfied after eating at the breast? If so, the LC can weigh DD and tell you how many oz she takes at the breast to give you an idea of how much she needs with a bottle feed. You may not need to leave as much as you do.
  • I swear I get more when I eat Nature Valley granola bars.

I am a SAHM. I had been pumping after each feeding and then before I went to bed at night (about 3 hours after her last feeding), but even all of that didn't add up to much. I have not seen a LC, but DD is satisfied after eating on both sides during the day. At her last feeding for the day, she nurses both sides just fine, then still acts like she's starving...I feed her a bottle with BM.

Thank you for the tips! And for the KellyMom website... I will be reading that for sure!!

  • I started back to work this week and I was so worried about my supply decreasing so I tried to be proactive.  I started drinking 3 cups of Mother's Milk Tea every day and eating lactation cookies.  I can totally tell it's made a difference and it's only been a week!!  I'm not sure which is working for me because I started both on the same day.
