My 3 year old is making himself throw up

I got a call from my son's preschool teacher today saying he was sucking or chewing on his fingers and all of a sudden he threw up.  She said she didn't know if he thought it was funny, or what, because he kept doing it and they couldn't stop him.  With H1N1 running rampant in Texas, they had me come pick him up, just to be cautious.

He doesn't have a fever and he doesn' seem ill otherwise, so I'm pretty sure he's not sick, but when I was talking to him about it at home, he tried to do it again.  I can't get an answer out of him as to why he's doing it and I'm thinking I'll just monitor it and hope he doesn't do it again.  I was just curious if anyone else's child has done this and if you have any suggestions.

Thanks :)

  • Preschoolers are strange little creatures aren't they!?!  I would do the same thing as you.  Hope it loses its appeal soon and he stops doing it.

  • My 14 month old just started doing this. He only gets to the point of gagging. At first I freaked and said, "Stop!". But I have decided to ignore him when he does it. So far that has made him stop.

It won't be so easy to ignore if he goes farther. Not sure what I would do then.

  • Both of my kids think it's hilarious to gag themselves.  DS has made himself vomit 2 or 3 times.  We ignore the behavior and it stops.  Good luck!
