Bloat comes and goes but a true bump doesn't. My bloat is always worse at night than first thing in the morning. With Zachary, I didn't really get a bump until about 16 weeks. I just looked like I'd put on weight in the midsection before that.
Your stomach will be hard just above your pelvic bone when your uterus starts to poke out. You baby is tucked behind your pelvic bone till about 12-13 weeks. Any bump you have before then is most likely bloat. Most first time moms do not get a bump till 15-20. I got mine with DS at about 18 weeks.
Bloat can be sucked in and gets bigger throughout the day.? When you have a baby bump its harder and cannot be sucked in no matter how hard you try.? Look at the "how big is baby" thingy on the home page, for example my baby is the size of an olive, so if I put an olive under my shirt could I see it...No.? Therefore its not a baby bump.? I didn't show until 20 weeks with my first so I'm not expecting anything any time soon and I'm greatful for that...it means I stay comfortable for as long as possibly:)
My waist is thickening, but I don't think it's bloat or a baby bump. I just think stuff is moving around in there since my ute is the size of a grapefruit now. It just makes sense. I'm not bloated, constipated or gassy so it's none of those.

YES! This is my second preg 10 weeks and my belly is bigger in the am too-it isn't this baby bloat thing-like hormones or something-my stuff is moving around-upward shifting. My body does this early and did last time... the uterus is pushing things up and things are a moving. I look huge already, but I do realize it isnt all baby-heck it isn't until later in the third tri that your belly is 99% baby anyways. I don't care what you call it but my belly is showing that I'm pregnant-not a baby that size or even there, but it is bc I am pregnant that I look like this and it isn't bc I overate or hormones are retaining water in my belly.
The uterus is tucked behind your pubic bone until week 12 or 13 at least. Up until that point, any bump you may see is probably a combination of fat, water retention and organs being pushed out of the way.

My unscientific definition is if strangers notice, you are officially showing.
I have a "bump" that those closest to me notice, but everyone else just thinks I've eaten too much lately.
Most people don't start showing with their first until after 20 weeks.
