Crafty crocheters, hat?

I crochet, but was only taught a single stitch and have no idea how to follow a pattern.  I'm proficent at that one stitch though, I've made tons of baby blankets, full sized bed blankets, throw blankets, etc.  I'd like to make J a beanie hat but have no idea how.  Can anyone explain it?  I'm left handed which makes this sort of thing hard to learn...at least I have a hard time learning.
