How do you know the difference between baby acne and formula allergy?

My DS has what I thought was baby acne.  The Dr. never said anything else about it.  He went to the Chriopractor yesterday and she said it could be an allergy to his formula (milk based with iron).  He's been on the same formula since birth.

The acne started on his forehead two weeks ago, has cleared up there and spread to his cheeks, chin and chest.

How do you know if your baby's formula is not agreeing with them and if it's acne or a reaction to the formula?  I assume it acne because his forehead has cleared up.

  • I asked the pedi the same thing. They told me if it was an allergy it would be on the whole body and DD would act miserable, itchy, like it bothered her. It is common they said for baby acne to come and go. My dd can have it so bad one day and her skin is completely clear the next.

  • Oooh good!  It doesn't seem to bother him or be itchy at all - and it's funny how fast it clears up from an area!
