My giant breasts are creating too much milk for my LO. The LC recommended I pump before nursing which has gone fine with the hand held single pump - except that it takes so long and is becoming a little painful.
I opened my PISA today and am so excited to pump more quickly and efficiently. My questions are: When do you pump for oversupply (how long before nursing)? Do you pump until "empty?" Do you have a schedule that you follow that you can recommend?
TIA
Re: oversupply/pumping schedule ?
Hmmm I would think that pumping before each feeding would only add to an oversupply issue.
I pump first thing in the AM (when he gets up for the day) and last thing at night (his last feeding before midnight). I pump (to empty) the breast that he did not eat off of.
No no no- DO NOT pump before feeding baby. that will only make your oversupply worse.
do not pump at all.
after baby eats and you are still full or if you get engorged in between feedings. put warm washcloths over your breasts and let it drip into the sink.
DO NOT pump.
Definitely don't pump! If you get engorged or are so full it's hard for kiddo to latch, you can hand express. Pumping will only make your supply increase.
kellymom.com has good info on oversupply.

Thanks everyone! I'll try not pumping and using the washcloth (or shower) suggestions).
There is so much to know and so many people with differing advice but you guys all seem to be saying the same thing - no pumping.
Thanks again!!
