I've noticed DD coughing/gagging during each feeding. She also spits up a LOT and always seems gassy. She basically sounds like she's gulping down milk when she nurses. I'm thinking i have an oversupply but I never feel the let-down and whenever she does pop off from coughing i never see any squirting or heavy leaking of BM.
She is gaining weight really well - 1 pound already in the past week and a half. However, if the gassiness and spit up are caused by oversupply I would love to try to fix it. Any tips on how you successfully resolved oversupply?
Re: Do I have an oversupply? Any tips?
You might, but it's pretty early to say for sure. But try feeding on just one breast per feeding to make sure she's getting hindmilk and completely draining a breast before offering the 2nd side (if she wants it at all) That will help cut down on the gassiness if you do have an oversupply.
Quite frankly ALL babies are gassy and spit up some.
I have the same problem, and I'm pretty sure it's overactive letdown. When she coughs/gags, I usually just give her a minute and let the milk drip out a little. Once she latches back on, she's fine.
FYI, I didn't feel the letdown until about 3 weeks.
