3rd Trimester

When is your doc scheduling your induction date?

My EDD is this Saturday, but at the last appointment (1 cm dilated; 75% effaced), the doc said she was going to schedule my induction date for early the 41st week (Monday or Tuesday of next week).  Does that seem aggressive?  I obviously don't want LO to stay inside for too long (for both of our sakes), but that seems like a quick give-in to me, especially given that I am planning a drug-free birth and induction will make that tougher.  Thoughts?  Have you discussed induction yet?

Re: When is your doc scheduling your induction date?

  • Oh - my next appointment is tomorrow afternoon and that is when she will schedule the induction.

  • i already talked to a few doctors at my practice and their policy is around 41 1/2 weeks.  I am going to talk to them about waiting the full 42 weeks because everyone is my family and DH's was about 42 weeks...I'm also planning drug free so i don't want to be induced either.
  • Wednesday (2 days early) or next Tuesday (4 days late). My doctor would let me go to 41 weeks if I wanted to but he is only on call those two days.  Personally, once you've hit the last week I don't think it's too "aggressive" to schedule an induction, but it's SUCH a personal decision.  Some women prefer to give the baby until 42 weeks and others are perfectly happy inducing a few days before the due date. I say whatever you, DH & your physician are comfortable with works :)

  • I just learned at my doctor's birthing class yesterday that she does not allow anyone to go past 41 weeks.  And like you, I am also-planning a drug free birth, so I'm fairly bummed out by this news.  Her class was run by one of her nurses, so I need to talk to her about it in more detail once the time gets closer, but I would definitely agree with you that it feels like a quick give in . . . Good luck!!!

  • I find out today. My OB explained that by 41.5 to 42 weeks even if there's little dilation, they need to induce. She told me that there could be distress on the baby if they are left after 42 weeks. I don't want to be induced either, but I also don't want to leave her in past the suggested time.
  • She won't discuss it (for being overdue, not other medical reasons) until after 40 weeks.

  • I talked to my doctor about this, because I live so far away from the hospital. (about an 1 1/2) She told me that because I'm due the Saturday before Thanksgiving, if I haven't given birth over the weekend, she is going to induce me on that Monday, so that I can have my baby and be home resting for Thanksgiving, instead of in the hospital.
  • Mine is next Tuesday, 39w2d.
  • Mine was scheduled at my 40-week checkup. It'll be this Friday, so I'll be 41w3d. I'm okay with it, although I would prefer to go into labor on my own. We'll see what happens in the next couple of days.

  • If my cervix is ripe enough, they'll schedule it for sometime next week at my appointment on Friday.

If my cervix is not ripe, I'm shiit out of luck & up a creek without a paddle.

  • Every doc is slightly diff... most don't like to let us go over 42 weeks.

I was due last Sunday and have an appointment this afternoon and he said he will schedule me for an induction before the end of the week... just shy of 42 weeks for me.

Induction does increase the chances of needing a cesarean so I was hoping to avoid that but 42 weeks things start to decline for the baby and I am soooo ready to birth her!

  • At 41 weeks exactly my dr. will be at the hospital for 24 hrs working with the interns (otherwise she's not always there) so we both agreed if LO does not make an appearance this week then I'll be induced then. Seems perfect to me, I don't feel the need to kick this little girl out the day after her due date but I also don't desire to go to 42 weeks either. 41 weeks happens to also be what my dr. recommends anyway for first babies.

  • MIne said we could schedule it at 39 weeks because I'm close to Christmas and don't want to be in the hospital on Christmas.
