OBGYN recs

I just posted this on the atlanta nest board, but I'd appreciate your experience here too. Hello to any of you that I know- I've been away the nest for awhile:)

I'm looking to find a new obgyn that I can stay with for the future (through a pregnancy/delivery). We're planning to start trying in the next year, but I need an annual pretty soon and I'd like to use that as an opportunity to 'interview' someone. I'd really like some personal recommendations from people who have used someone through a pregnancy and delivery. I'll be posting this on the 'bump' board too (wow, so much new stuff):) My requirements: Intown/Decatur offices, Delivers at Piedmont or Dekalb Regional, Preferably female, and open to natural childbirth (I'm hoping to go this route).

I had a good experience with Atlanta Gynecology & Obstetrics - www.atlantagynob.com. They deliver at Dekalb Medical and there's only 1 male doctor. By some fluke with appointments, I didn't actually meet him until the night I went into labor. Even though he didn't end up delivering Merritt, I liked his bedside manner and felt very comfortable with him right off the bat. I ended up having a c-section so I can't speak to natural childbirth, but I will say that I never received any pressure from the Dr. Glasser or Dr. Lyman regarding epidurals and whatnot. That said, I do remember the hospital staff being a bit pushy about it. Just be firm in your wishes and you should be fine.

I have not used them personally, but have heard great things about Intown Midwifery from a Decatur moms message board. I can't recommend the practice I used. Good luck!

I second Atlanta GYN &OB. I used them for my first pregnancy and would have used them again if I didn't move so far away. Dr. Jennifer Lyman ended up delivering my son and she was wonderful! They deliver at Dekalb Medical and their office is right near there as well. They had 2 male doctors and 5 female doctors when I used them 2 years ago. We really liked one of the male doctors as well - he was young - and Dr. Gfasser the other one we liked as well. I don't know about any docs, but if you really want to go natural (which I did until I had my epidural for my CS) then I have some classes I HIGHLY recommend. You can email me @ code3chica@yahoo.com if you want the info. GL!!

Thanks all- I will look into these!

To be lam- I would love to be able to use Intown Midwifery - one of the nurse midwives that started it delivered me 30 years ago and I used to see her when she at an obgyn's office. They don't take insurance plans right now, but hopefully in the future.

JoelsGirl- I may be contacting you when the time comes! My mom taught natural childbirth classes in our basement for years, but I think I need someone other than my mom's private tutoring:)

I see Dr. Nancy Cook at Taylor Suarez Cook & Carroll. They deliver at Piedmont, and there are 5 docs in the practice (3 female, 2 male.) Dr. Kristan Adams delivered Elizabeth, and she is my second favorite doctor in the practice. If I didn't see Dr. Cook, I'd see her for my primary. Dr. Ramon Suarez delivered William, and I really liked him, too.

I found both times that the nurses at Piedmont were really supportive of nonmedicated labor; they have exercise balls you can labor on and most of the LDR suites have bathtubs you can use.
