Lotrimin for eczema?

Has anyone used it before? Jocelyn has a bad patch on her face, and now it is really starting to bother her, and she is scratching it. Called the nurse line, and dr. said it could be ring worm (we were just there for her 6 month check and he said it was eczema). He said lotrimin 3x a day for 1 week. I started yesterday and don't see much of a change.

Re: Lotrimin for eczema?

  • DD has pretty bad eczema and I have never heard Lotrimin. You can't put a lot on the face... have you tried Aquafor or even regular Vasoline? Those are my standbys.

  • Ugg, I know. I have been doing Aquafor and it is not helping at all. I guess after 1 week if it is not better we'll head in to the dr. I swear I read on here about someone using Lotrimin.

  • You could probably use a low strength Hydrocortizone but my pedi doesn't recommend it w/o seeing the rash/eczema. If I use it I only use it once a day and put it on VERY lightly!
  • Lotrimin is for yeast diaper rashes - I wouldnt put it on Alex's face.

I use to get excema really bad and I used Eucerin cream on my face.

Id be careful putting the Lortimin on her face -- to me i view that stuff as potent since it can knock out a yeast diaper rash.

  • Ditto.  The only thing I have heard of Lotrimin for (other than athlete's foot) is yeast rash.  I don't think I would put it on DS' face.

I have ezcema patches on my face sometimes and hydrocortisone works, but I'm not sure I'd use it on a baby.

  • Jeremiah and Kimberly both have had eczema and we were instructed to use hydrocortisone.  At one point they gave Jeremiah a prescription cream, but that was only when it was really bad.

  • the lotrimin is for the ring worm that the MD is trying to treat, not the eczema!  you can put lotrimin on her face, as long as it is a very small amount and you rub it in really good.  you won't see the rash from ring worm go away in less than a week, it normally takes a couple of weeks, so don't expect sudden changes.  the eczema would respond to hydrocortisone, and you would see more immediate effects from that.  the ring worm might actually be irritated by the hydrocortisone.  i would stick to the md's recommendation.  is it a round ring-like rash, if so that is def. ring worm!!  good luck
