How did it go preparing for it? DS needs an MRI. They are going to do oral sedation. I have to keep him up late and wake him up very early to try to deprive him of sleep. NPO 4 hours before the test.
This should be fun with a 14 month old that's getting molars.
If you've been through this, do you have any advice for me?
TIA!
Re: If your child had an MRI
DD #2 - 03.13
DS had to have one at 11 mos old. Keeping him up wasn't hard, he thought it was a special treat to get to stay up with me! And I let him have a late-night snack, knowing he wasn't going to be able to eat the next morning. He did fine waking up early, but did keep asking for something to eat. I just tried to keep him distracted. The only problem we had, was the nurse couldn't get his IV in. But if your DS is being sedated orally, you shouldn't have to worry about that!
They let me stay back there with him while he fell asleep and they put him on the MRI table (I didn't like watching him get strapped down!). And said they'd call me in an hour when he was done and awake. Well.... an hour and a half went by and I still hadn't heard from them. I was a nervous wreck. I finally went back there and asked about him, turns out, he'd been awake and playing for awhile, but the nurses were having so much fun with him they weren't ready to give him back just yet! He did great
What time is your MRI? I would give him a late night snack and drink before bed. The oral sedation is easier than an IV but keep in mind they might not like the taste of it....
Good luck!
I haven't scheduled it yet. They only do them between 10am & 2pm. So I could just get him up early and he could still have breakfast if I schedule it for say 10am.
The hardest part is I have no one to help with DD. They suggest you not bring siblings. She was a freaking monster at the neurologist today. I may have to sedate her too.
