Anyone else doing perineal massage, and does it HURT? My DH did it for me for the first time last night and it hurt a ton, I don't know if we were doing something wrong... I'm doubly scared of labor now...

Awww, don't be scared! It's just tender right now but during labor your body releases hormones that allow that area to stretch.

I haven't done it, but I can't imagine why it would hurt. Did you use some sort of lube or massage oil?

I have only had it done once. I am very early in my pregnancy though but plan to keep doing it. Actually the last time my DH did it for me it ended up leading to sex...he was super excited to help out in any way.

My midwife told me that you're MORE likely to tear if you do perineal massage! She said your body knows what to do, during labor your vagina will stretch to allow the baby to come through.

I did it.

It hurt.

I still had to have an episiotomy. At that point, I was begging for one.

I gotta admit that the literature I've read doesn't suggest perineal massage. Most of my lit says it doesn't really help at all.

What are you using as a lube? I read something that suggested KY jelly. We are so going to be doing this, especially when we found out her head is in the 90th percentile. lol

We haven't done it, but I've heard from people on this board who've done it that it does hurt.
