LC said yes but I'd like to take a survey here to see what you ladies think.
last week i started BFing LO 2-3 times a day after no nursing for 2-3 weeks. i was bleeding on both side of my nipples because of poor latching and decided to XP till the pain goes away.
Re: as LO get older, do they learn better latching?
Do you mean do you have to help them always - nope! Once they get decent head control you just have to get them in the neighborhood; now that kiddo crawls, he can even do that part himself.
I would guess though that you do have to help them to learn to latch properly - is your LC helping you correct he's latch?

My DS got much better at latching without my help around 8 weeks old. Obviously now it's a piece of cake.
However, you still have to teach your little one how to latch properly in the first place. Make sure your nipple goes deep in their mouth, their tongue is down, and they have 'fishy lips'. Your nipples will be sore for a couple weeks while they 'toughen' up, but they shouldn't bleed. See an LC to make sure the latch is correct, or google some info on latching.
