Founds tons of wool! Knitting question

So I got out my knitting bag to go through it and see what size needles I had and what amounts of yarn I had leftover, etc. Anyway, I discovered that the yarn I'd bought for the failed Christmas stocking 2007 attempt is 100% wool. I have tons of it - three skeins of green and three of red (if not more... I had to rip apart one attempted stocking and I am not sure if it was 1 or 2 skeins in there to begin with).

Is there an easy way to do longies/shorties? I'd love to make something for DS but I have no idea where to begin. I am very much a beginner...

Re: Founds tons of wool! Knitting question

  • I would just find a pattern you like and go for it.  That's how I learned to knit.  If there was something I didn't know how to do, I'd take my project to the computer and look it up on knittinghelp.com.  And there are lots of knitters here who can help get you through any rough spots.

  • ditto pp - and check out ravelry - there is a longies/soakers group but also tons of patterns - many of them free. it's how I got started knitting longies and I'm now on my third pair :). I like the Aubrey Doodle Pants pattern but I've heard good things about the tinybirds as well.
  • I just finished my first pair of longies and they were not nearly as hard as I thought they would be.  I used the sheepy pants pattern from Ravelry, and whenever I needed help I would go to knittinghelp.com and knit at my computer while watching their tutorial videos.  I finished my sheepy pants in a week, and they turned out pretty good.  My previous projects had only included scarfs and blankets and they would take me weeks to months.  After I finished them my DH said that I could totally sell them, and he thought they were great.  He still has no clue why anyone would want wool pants, but I'm trying to "learn" him in the ways of the CD.  Big Smile
  • ditto pps' suggestions on Ravelry - I have also used the Sheepy Pants pattern - it's not free but is very detailed.
