On Monday during my 41 weeks appointment I was still 2 cm dilated, not much progress since the previous week. My OB, Dr. Gaba recommended not to wait any longer since this could bring complications, so I was scheduled to come to GW hospital on tuesday night to start my induction with cervidil and then start pitocin at 8 am on wednesday, my doctor said the baby was going to be born hopefully before 5 pm before she needed to go home for the day. We arrived to the hospital on tuesday at 5 pm, around 7 pm they decided to send me back home for the night and skip the cervidil since I had dilated 3 cm over night. We came back to the hospital on wednesday at 6 am, I was 3.5 to 4 cm dilated. I started pitocin at 8 am, my OB had prescribed max 20 units, increasing 2 units at a time, around noon with 8 units of pitocin, I asked for epidural because I could not stand the pain any longer, I cried when I was getting the epidural because I was scared and having contractions while they were getting it done. I have to say the needle hurt... but I felt immediate relief, the pain was gone, only felt pressure. By 4 pm I was 10 cm dilated and feeling like I needed to go to the bathroom really bad. They call my doctor and said I was ready to push. After 1 hour and a half of pushing the baby head was stuck on the canal, my OB had to leave and so the nurses..the new shift started, I was frustrated and crying again. I kept pushing and I was doing some progress but the baby could not come out... Dr Monti said they were going to help me out with forceps and if this did not work I was going to have a C section. I was tired, scared but kept pushing so hard, they used the forceps and the baby was born at 8: 35 pm, she was 8 lb 13.6 oz, 21 inches long. I had some lacerations and stiches but I was so delighted to finally meet the baby that I did feel that pain...
We came home yesterday, I am still sore but grateful to have a healthy and beautiful baby. My husband did a great job taking care of me and encouraging throughout the whole dramatic labor. It was not easy for him either I could see it on his face...GW was great, the nurses, and doctors were amazing, the birth room was huge, even the food was decent. I highly recomment the hospital.
Thank you all of you who have shared your wisdom and helped me through the motherhood process. God bless all the mom's and children on this board. I need to go feed my baby!
