This may sound stupid but I thought I read somewhere this isnt good while pregnant. I have a wedding to attent this next saturday, I am so pale. I havent been in the sun much at all this summer. So is it ok to do the spray tan at the tanning salon or the tan lotion like neutrogena or something??
Re: tanning
It kind of bugs me how every doctor is different. My doctor told me pretty much everything was okay, he said eat whatever kinds of fish I want (even swordfish) and all this other stuff meanwhile my friend's doctor is really strict about what she can and can't do while pregnant.
I wish all these doctor's would just come to an agreement and give us pregnant women the same guidelines! :'( ((with the exception of high risk pregnancies I can understand why they need to be more careful))
Some doctors are REALLY strict.
I've never had a doctor that had a problem with using self tanner at home. I have used the gradual tanners a few times with no problems, and I also used self tanner while pregnant with DS.
I know! There are 7 Drs in the practice I go to and even they disagree with what is ok and what is not. I usually just ask my "regular" Dr if I get 2 different opinions.
Beware of self tanner use while pregnant! You might end up orange.
I learned this one the hard way...there's something about those good ol' pregnancy hormones that cause some women's skin to react differently to the tanning agents. I used the Jergens Natural Glow for 2 days back in early 2nd tri and ended up looking like a pumpkin. I had exfoliated beforehand and was sure to rub the lotion in evenly...but my skin + the tanning chemicals did NOT mix. My shoulders and forearms were ORANGE for days.
Just a cautionary tale. I remember a few others on these boards that had the same problem. I'm ghostly white, but wanted to test out some self tanners before a wedding (which fortunately was a couple months later). After that experience, I decided that white was better than orange.
Some other advice in regards to the pp who said she just got a natural tan from the sun, a lot of women will get darker patches on their skin when exposed to sunlight (thanks hormones!). I got a weird dark spot on my arm and have seen women who get them on their face.
Most of the time these darker spots fade and go away, but for some women they don't.
Just something to keep in mind.
