my little guy smiles easily and a lot- but sometimes he is hard to get a smile out of and a lot of the day he is staring and checking everything out and looks so serious
ETA: how much unprompted smiling? he always is smiling when interacting unless hes exhausted
Re: 3 mo olds- how often are they smiling?
ok- this is what we have
Proud mama to a boys- 6/17/09 - a girl 2/23/11- and a boy 8/20/12
this makes me feel so much better- our trip to the grocery store and lack of smile for the casheir is what prompted this post

He almost always smiles back at us if we smile at him, and sometimes unprompted. I offer him this ball that he likes (it's red, orange, and yellow, his favorite bright colors) and if he successfully takes it from me, he smiles this really cute little shy grin, like "aha! I did it!". He gets very pleased with himself when he masters little things like that.
But most often with strangers or strange places, he's pretty serious. It looks like he's scanning people's faces, and I like to say he's processing them into his databank.
