Infertility

An introduction of me...

Hi ladies,

I am scooting on over to this board, I hope you all won't mind having me.  I'm at the end of my 13th cycle TTC.  As a matter of fact, my first cycle started one year ago today.  I can't believe we are at this point, but I guess it is something we'll take as it comes.

I had a lap/hyst in March and they dx's me with moderate endo, but all of my other tests have been normal.  DH had an SA and that was "stellar."  So that is good.

This month we tried IUI with 100mg clomid, trigger and now I am taking progesterone.  I'm not overly psyched about my RE, since she's already told me I'm "broken" and "time is running out."  She's also written me an Rx with the wrong first name, despite the fact that she and I have the SAME, uniquely spelled name.  But, looking for a new one isn't something I've got any resources for and at this point she has a file for me the size of War and Peace.  But, I digress.

Anyway, it's been hard to keep my spirits up, as I am surrounded by friends getting KU left and right.  We started trying first and are now among the last still trying.  Blah.  If anyone has any pointers on how not to be such a downer, I am all ears!

Anyway, here I am.  Thanks for reading and GL to everyone here :)

  • Welcome to the board. You'll find a lot of us with similar thoughts and feelings to yours. Good luck this cycle.

  • So very sorry you have to be here.  While you may feel like your RE has all your Hx my instinct tells me if you are not happy with your RE then to find another.  There is the resolve website and you could also likely get recommendations here.  Ask around on a local board (I have a local community board and b/c I wanted to remain anonymous posted under a different screen name), ask your pcp.  I just encourage you b/c I know what it is like to not have faith in your RE and to me that goes above and beyond anything else that the doc might have.  Hopefully it will be a short road ahead but it may not be, and I'd hate for you to spend any more time with someone you don't have respect for.

GL, this board is so friggin' awesome.  BUT I hope you are not here long!

  • Welcome to the board!  I don't really have any pointers for you, but I hope you can find some encouragement and support from this board.  I know I have!
  • Hi and welcome! I'm so sorry that you're joining us, but I know that you'll find lots of support here. The gals here are wonderful.

I do have to say this - if you really dislike your RE that much, please look for a new one. One thing that I have learned on this journey is you have to be your own advocate. Filling out your RX with the wrong name on it would be a deal breaker for me.

I'm sure there are women on here who could help you find a new RE. Where are you from and how far are you willing to drive? The ladies on here are full of resources. :) We'll help find you a keeper.

Anyway - good luck and I hope your stay here is short and sweet.

  • Thank you ladies.  I know I probably should look for someone else - I guess it's just part laziness.  I have no clue where to begin, nobody who can relate so I can't ask for a referral.  Meh.

You are right though.  I will maybe post on my local board and see what comes up.  I'm in NYC/North NJ area... I think you all had a GTG recently (I'm a good lurker ;) )

  • Hi and welcome to the board, I hope you don't mind me posting with my ticker, but I do have to say I was given the same "time is running out" speech by my first RE. I said first, because I did end up switching clinics to someone who was more hopeful. The hope and his aggressiveness I attribute to me having the ticker I now have. I also had a novel as far as records went and at first I was afraid to make the switch. That all changed when I talked to my new doctor. Hope is a wonderful thing - never ever stick with someone because it is the easiest route. Listen to your gut!

May I ask how old you are? I will be 38 in a month, 36 when I started seeing the first RE.

     Good luck!

A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

  • If you aren't comfortable with your RE, I would definitely look for a new one, though I know it's not always an option. As far as your records, don't worry about the size of your file. I've been in treatment off and on since 2007 and I've since lived in three countries; medical records travel ;)

It sounds like you are in a highly populated part of the U.S. so I'm sure there are several women on the board who could recommend an RE.

    Good luck!

Yeah, I know you ladies are right.  I just posted on my local board so we shall see how that goes.  I do need someone up-beat though... I've been down in the dumps all month.  I hate feelign this way.

I'm 32.  I have NO idea why she was so obnoxious about "time running out."  She doesn't have the best bedside manner.  I just googled her and there are all kinds of negative reviews for her.  Yikes.

  • Welcome! Your RE sounds very negative - I'm sorry. I agree with previous post that you should check out the Resolve website or check the local boards. Even ask the girls here - many are from the NY/NJ area. At my previous clinic I felt like a number and that there was a set plan I had to follow. I wouldn't have changed REs, but I lost my ins and was forced to change. It's actually been very positive. Dh and I both had to sign to request to have our records transferred, in order to have them for RE to go over before 1st consult (although ours in not quite the size of War and Peace ;-)). I had my 1st appt a few weeks back, and my new RE and his staff are so positive and supportive that I even have a better outlook now. I really think it could make a difference. Good luck to you!

BTW - I love your penguins AND Long Duck Dong siggy!

What is this resolve website?  I may take a peek.

I really appreciate all of the nice words of encouragement.  I really needed it this morning!

p.p.s. I am So Cal born and raised!  Where are you from?

  • You have a lot of time, since you haven't received a dx telling you otherwise! 32 is not old!!! My RE would tell me all the time that 30 is the new 20 so I was average in "soon to be mother" age in this area (Boston)

Resolve.org is the site to look at. Or ask for reccs here or even on SAIF (you would get a larger response on a weekday) but there are a ton of girls from the NJ/NY area on here. One of which comes to mind and I am sure she will be willing to recc her RE.

Thank you very much!  I will definitely post here/ SAIF on Monday.  I really appreciate it!  Part of me feels like my RE is just a biatch.  The reviews on her are less than pleasant to read.

I googled her and the first site that came up is called "judysbook.com"  There are 17 - 1 star reviews, and only 7 - 5 star reviews of her.

I guess when I think about what I want in a dr. I think... well, someone who can at least freaking remember my name, lol.  Nice, positive, friendly, not too hard to reach if I have a question.  An office that returns phone calls.  Has compassion... Maybe I am being unreasonable?

well i've seen this doc for a total of 3 times ... and he's really great ... keeps you at ease ... my only thing is that he tells u every little thing that he is doing ... i'm the type that's like dun tell me what ur doing jus do it ... but otherwise he's positive yet realistic ... he's not very critical of me ... i once went to a doc and felt i was judged EVERY single time i went in to see her ... horrible experience to the point where i didn't see a doc till maybe 5 years later ... i haven't called this doc yet but i have called the office and they are very courteous and they return my phone calls within the hour which is great ... my only other problem with this doc is if i make an appt, it has to be within the weekday when i'm working which is inconvenient b.c i have to take off from work ... but then again i do get off from work ... overall, i like him .... so far ... let me know if you are interested ... i know they have 4 other docs in the place too ... 1 female and 4 male docs in total ...

  • Hello and welcome!!  I just joined this board last week, and all the ladies are so wonderful here!!  Good luck with your current cycle!!

  • Welcome cc, I remember you from the GP board.  I'm sorry you have to be here, and I wish you the best of luck with your IUI results!!  This board is great, and the women here are wonderfully supportive.  I hope you don't have to stay with us long!  ~ 2be
  • Welcome-

I think i'd find a new RE b/c you need to feel comfortable w/ your RE- its already enough stress going through IF, so you dont need any more stress added on.  plus thats mean/rude/unprofessional to say you're broken and time is running out.   I hope you find a more supportive RE soon.

Are you in the middle of your 2ww for your IUI now?  if so good luck!

    Yes, I am.  Thank you!

Hi 2becomes3!  I recognize you as well.  It's nice to see some familiar faces, although I hope we all move on shortly as well.
