I had a medium rare steak the other night and I couldn't look at it. Was more of an aversion though. I'd still go med. rare if you want too, but think I'll go medium just to appease my food issues and figure it's a little bit better. Could never go well done with meat though, yuk
I think a lot of it has to do with temperature...make sure it is cooked to an appropriate temperature. Oh, and of course, it should probably be limited...not medium/rare steak night after night. Probably not a good thing...

"You can eat steak however you like. It's the same as if you weren't pregnant. The deal with steak is this...if there is any bacteria, (or a harmful level of bacteria) it is from mishandling or exposure during the processing and is on the outside of the steak. Unless you pierce the steak with something and let it sit at room temp longer than 2 hours, the bacteria are not inside the meat. Cooking the steak at all, whether it's rare or well, will kill the bacteria present on the outside of the steak. Hamburger is another story. Since that has been ground and mixed, any bacteria that were present on the outside of the meat before it was ground up, will now be incorporated into the meat and you'll want to eat hamburger well done. This is the case whether you are pregnant or not."
Re: Is a steak cooked to medium considered raw meat?
Oh thank goodness!
I felt weird even asking but I had heard that in pregnancy you couldn't have any pink in a steak.
Yay for yummy steak tonight!
Exactly... just because it's not raw doesn't mean that it's "Cooked through." All meat consumed during pregnancy should be cooked through.
Does everyone abide by that? No. Does everyone who doesn't abide by that end up with problems? No.
It all depends on the level of risk you are willing to take.
I still eat mine medium rare. But I'm a rebel.
Although I rarely eat red meat anyway.

Ditto :-)

I wouldn't be able to eat a steak that medium or medium-well. YUK!
