2nd Trimester

Dr. hasn't called me back...does this mean there's a problem?

I had my targeted anatomy ultrasound on Tuesday and I asked the tech if she would be the one to tell me how everything with the baby looked or would the doctor called me with results. In my paranoia, I think I remember her pausing for a second and saying that "unofficially" she thought everything looked good but that the doctor would call. The next day I got really nervous and called my doctor's office and said I was calling to get the results. The nurse said the doctor wasn't in the office yet that day but she'd take a message. I have an appointment with the doctor on Monday morning, so I was thinking perhaps they're waiting until then to go over the results with me? Then I'm getting nervous thinking that (especially because I called for results) if everything was normal someone like a nurse would have been delegated to just call me and say all was well - I'm worried if the doctor needs to discuss something with me, it must be serious.

Am I overreacting and should I assume no news is good news? Or does this sometimes happen this way when there's a concern?

  • No call is good news....thats what mine said about blood work...did you already have a monday appt before the tes tcould have been read...maybe the doc took a vacay??

  • I think right now you may be overracting. There could be a lot of reasons why he hasn't called you back (busy day, lots of patients, deliveries). How long is their call back policy? At my OB they have 48 hours.  Try not to stress about it and just ask on Monday.

     GL!

  • I wouldn't read in to it too much.  Your appt. is on Monday.  Just tell yourself that everything is okay and get through the weekend.

  • Calm down! Take a nice deep breath! For legal reasons office staff cannot give results over the phone. Even if they are normal. They are not qualified to answer your questions. So, your doctor is more than likely just busy and will discuss everything with you on Monday. :)
  • They would only call if there was bad news...

  • First of all, DR's are very busy. They have tons of patients.  Second, if it was serious the DR would have gotten back to you asap. So stay calm.

  • Most of the time they only call if there's a problem. When I didn't hear from my doc, I just assumed all was well (and it was).

  • As the saying goes, no news is good news.  I think you're overreacting.  I'd be worried if they did call with test results.  My drs have never called with results unless there was further testing needed or if something was wrong.
  • I have never gotten a phone call in regards to my anatomy scan results (this is my 3rd baby)...they always relay the news at my next appointment.  With my Dr, since he's the only Dr in the practice, it takes him at least 72 hours to review the scans.  I had my scan at 18 weeks and went in the following week for my normal check up.

In my experience, no news is good news anyway.  Stop stressing out over it, you'll make yourself sick.  Relax this weekend while you wait for your appointment on Monday...worrying isn't good for the baby.

  • I had my anatomy scan on August 31 and I've never been told anything about it, other than the baby is a boy. I have even had an OB appointment since then. I totally forgot to ask the doctor to go over it. I'm assuming everything is fine.

I've also been admitted to L&D twice since the scan and had ultrasounds so I'm assuming if there was anything wrong/to be concerned about they would have brought it up then.

    Usually no news= good news.

  • When I had my u/s with DD our ultrasound tech told us exactly what he was measuring and that it was fine. We even asked him what happens if he sees something that is majorly wrong and he said they call in a docotor right away. They would not make you wait. My daughter did look like she had enlarged kidneys and my ob is the one who told me that at our next apt. If it was something major, you would already know. I am going in the my u/s with this LO and not seing my ob until over a week after that.
