Semi PR: how would you respond to sister?

Tomorrow I'm supposed to take A to a birthday party (doubt we'll go now b/c she's sick). My mom is taking my youngest sister out of town so I'm going to take off 1/2 a day so I don't have to get my other sister to keep A. I sent the middle sister a text to tell her I was just asking my mom to wait and leave 20 min later since I would have to leave at 10 (time she was planning to leave). She texted me back and said to make sure I go straight there and don't detour. I told her thanks but I'm not 5.  Then she started telling me (again) that I have no consideration for others & their time and naming off all these examples. I'm just really frustrated right now b/c I already hate having to have my mom watch her while I work or get anyone to keep her for anything. I am guilty of stopping places on my way home but rush as fast as I can b/c it's so much easier w/out her and otherwise I'm ALWAYS with her. I never get to go anywhere or do anything --- work, home, work, home. So, I know I need to do better about that. I was finally feeling better today and she's made me feel bad w/her usual "we don't mind keeping A, it's your taking advantage of people watching her." I really feel like I can't win. I keep trying but I feel like I just need to finally stop talking to my sister b/c things will never truly change.

  • You can't win with people like that.  Take the high road with a "sorry you feel that way, I'll hurry home as quickly as I can."

I think that's the best you can do, at least without totally getting into a fight.
