Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Those that tracked betas after D&C

I haven't tracked betas, but because I bled for 7 weeks after the D&C and have not been myself, my OB checked by beta last week (8 weeks post D&C).  They came back at 64 and I'm going back next week for another beta.

Just wondering how long it took you for your levels to get to zero...I'm concerned I may need to go in for another D&C...

Re: Those that tracked betas after D&C

  • i have the same question. i just went today for my first check up post d&c so i don't know yet what my levels are. i am hoping that i am at zero already so i can move on to more testing to determine why i had the m/c. the baby's heart stopped beating at almost 8 weeks & i found out at 8 weeks 4 days at an ultrasound.

  • I had my post-op appt at 4 weeks with no AF yet so he ran the #'s.

    beta 6, progesterone 1.1

I have to go back again next week.

I'm glad your OB's staying on top of things for you!

64 is really low so I'm hoping it's a short monitoring for you.

    Hope you're to zero soon.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
  • My Ob did not do betas, but I POAS once a week just out of curiousity.  Week 4 was positive, week 5 was negative.

  • well, i think you could end up with another D&C. I had 3 in total (from one miscarriage).  If you've already had children( i have 2 kids), your uterus doesnt contract as fast and doesnt push everything out as thoroughly, I was told.  My 2nd D&C was 2 weeks after my first.

then - a month later I was still testing positive on a HPT and at my follow-up my Dr did an internal ultrasound and saw that the placenta had tried to regenerate. Super rare - he said he has seen it 4 times in 20 years of practice.  Anyway - he was concerned that if the growth (which was smaller than the head of a pin) embedded in the uterine wall, it could create a scar which could impact future fertility.  My betas was 4 the day he found it.

ANyway -I had my 3rd D&C (although it wasnt technically a D&C, I just think of it that was since from my perspective it felt the same) and he just tapped it and it fell - so it had no embedded and no scarring.

so i think you are right to proactively monitor this. GL!

  • I also used HPTs about once a week after the D&C. By week 3 it was a faint positive and by 3.5 weeks it was negative. Then I got my period around 4 wks.

  • It took me 8 weeks.  I was 9.5 weeks at the d&c, but I had a partial molar, so I'm not sure if that makes a difference.

I seeeeeeriously hope it doesn't take that long this time.

  • I am so sorry for your loss.  I hope you do not have to go for another d & c.  I have to go for my b/w this coming week.  I seriously do not want to go.  I am also wondering if my beta will be at zero already.  The thought just makes me sick.

I hope everything works out well for you********hugs******.
