Pumping Schedule- need your help!I go back to work in a week and am trying to figure out when to pump and how to keep my supply up. Here is my schedule 5am-nurse DD 7am leave for work- 11-12 run home to feed DD 3:20 School ends My questions are, 1) at 7am should I try and nurse her again or pump when I get to work? 2) After I feed her at lunch, should I try and pump afterwards to keep my supply up? 3) She'll eat at 2pm and then at 5pm so when I am done at 3:20 should I pump or just wait to feed her at 5pm? Re: XP:Pumping Schedule- need your help!
I'd see if she'll eat again at 7 if she typically eats every 2 hours. It doesn't make sense to me to give her a bottle if you have the time to nurse her; if you do not have time to nurse her again at 7, then yes, see if you can pump when you get to work.
Ideally, if it were me, I'd nurse at 5 & 7, then go to work and pump around 9 (if that's when she'll get a bottle), nurse at lunchtime but not bother pumping after, then pump either around 2 or at 3:20 when you're done for the day since I'm guessing she'll have a bottle at 2ish. Once you're home, just nurse her again at 4 or 5, whenever she says she's hungry. Ask whoever is watching her not to give her a bottle at 4 if you'll be along in a couple minutes to nurse. Nurse as usual for the evening/night, and pump when she goes down for her longest strech of sleep to keep supply up and have enough for the next day's bottles.
Just a few questions before I toss out my idea...can you pump at work and at what times. Also how often are you feeding right now? Is your supply adequate right now or are you struggling to keep up w/ her?
To revise what I suggested for a schedule, I think your should pump after that 5am feeding. The milk supply is always greatest in the morning. Maybe pump right before work for like 10 mins since she likely eats again at 8. I'd do a quickie 10 min pump at the 9:45 recess if I was worried about supply and having enough milk to give her for the next day. You have an hour to "recharge" before you feed the baby at 11/12. Pump after school at 3:20, that's about 3 hrs after the lunchtime feeding.
On the weekend, do her normal feeding schedule and pump after the 5am and after she goes to bed to get a little extra. I used to get a whole extra bottle's worth of milk if I pumped for 10-15 mins after my DS's first feeding of the day, and that really helped as far as having enough milk for days when he was hungrier or days when I didn't pump out enough for the next day.
This is very helpful for me too!!
I would try to feed her at 7 and see if she'll nurse a little bit. Thats what I plan to do, although Nora is never very hungry around then.
I would also pump during recess too, or if you're worried about not having enough for Cora at 11, I would just pump one side (does she take more than one side when she eats?)
