Snarky and T-TTC

please tell me why...

you can't have a criminal record and be a lawn technician?

MH has a low-level felony on his record (he's an idiot) and he is looking for a job.  every job opening requires a clean background check.  how is one's ability to apply fertilizer to someone's yard affected by buying a stolen computer?

  • Because more than likely you will be in close proximity to people's homes while they are not there.  And they don't want the liability if someone were to break into a house and steal- the person could come back and be like, you hired someone with a record (no matter what it was) to come to my house!

i think that's a stretch - i can understand for like a plumber or a carpet cleaner.  i mean, you're actually going into someone's home!  but spraying pesticides on the lawn?  anyone can come up and break into your house whenever you aren't there, whether they are working or not.

    good point.

  • It is a stretch, but probably true.  I work for Facilities and because our employees are in people's buildings and offices we require all of them to have a background check.  Even our groundskeepers who don't go into buildings.
  • b/c of the spectre of a negligent hiring lawsuit

    don't you love lawyers? =)

  • A chemlawn guy broke into the house down the street from my parent's house.

The plumbers and carpet guys you are usually there.  The lawn guys can be there when no one's home and neighbors will think nothing of them going in the backyard.  It's the perfect cover.
