I feel like 99% of the time that she's actually awake, she's fussy. She's either sleeping, eating, or crying. I feel like I get maybe half an hour total every day where she is awake and content.
I think it's normal...he has days where there is 0 awake and happy time, and then days like today he might have 20 minutes or more a few times a day before getting sleepy. It almost always has to involve human interaction, though...he's not happy by himself yet.
Um, yeah. The Bump be too crazy for pics of my kid.
Your description sounds very much like my one month old. When he's alert (like right now!) he's usually flailing and a bit fussy--not crying or anything but not seemingly serene and content.
You are perfectly describing my LO at that age. It wasn't until 2 months that things started getting a little better. Now at almost 5 months we get A LOT of happy awake time. It makes up for the hard times in the beginnings
DS was the same way at that age. I thought there was something wrong because he never seemed to have that "quiet alert" mode that I had read about. Now I realize that's just the age - at 10 weeks he has lots of happy awake time during the day. It's now starting to become tons of fun to hang out with him!
I was wondering the same thing! My little guy will once in a while have 20 minutes or so where he is happy, but it's generally when he's on his play mat or lounging in the boppy. He's never really happy being held (unless, of course, he's asleep!) because then he will try to eat! It's good to know that he's doing about the same thing as other babies his age- I was starting to worry that I had the world's grumpiest baby! Hope he gets better in a few weeks!
It doesn't help but that's pretty normal. Mine was similar at that age too but she's better now.
I will say though, that if it continues, talk to your pedi - my LO was having a lot of tummy issues (one pedi said it was normal, another said she could have an intolerance to something in my breastmilk so we tried some different things and are improving.
Re: How much 'awake and happy time' does your 1 mo. old have?
Your LO is totally normal from my experience. I know generally 3-6 weeks can be especially fussy times. It WILL get better!!
