I called HR Monday and it's true that my cost for insurance will more than double by going part time.
I did the math against DH's insurance and because I'll be delivering in December, it makes sense to keep my coverage until then. His BCBS covers inpatient at 80-90% depending on the plan and mine is 100% as an employee. We'd only save $200 by switching now and that's for a perfect no complications vag delivery. Anything above and beyond that, we'd lose money so "just in case", we'll keep mine until Jan then switch so long as things with this baby go well.
At this point I have no idea what my paychecks will look like except that they'll be a helluva a lot less... like working just to pay insurance. blech. I'm going to crunch numbers again today.
Re: Update on Part-Time Insurance Cost
youch!
I'm not surprised at the cost jump. When I got married, it was only a slight cost increase (maybe an extra $30 per month) for me to be the spouse on DH's plan than to carry my own insurance as a FT employee at my employer (which was in health care).
DH's insurance looked a lot better on paper and they have indeed paid easily and quickly for our myriad of medical expenses over the past couple of years.
