Her: So....when are you going to have a baby?
Me: Oh, you know, I don't know....DH and I are talking about it.
Her: Well, just be sure you're ready to be pregnant when you start trying. It can happen right away. It did for us and I cried when I saw the pregnancy test. And not because I was happy
Me: ![]()
And that was the only time I have ever wanted to punch a pregnant woman.
Re: My coversation with a 39 weeks PG woman
What on earth is wrong with people? See I would have then said something like "Well thanks for the information, we have actually been trying for about a year now and are having fertility problems. I'm sorry you cried when you got your BFP, I would give anything to have that. Good luck with your baby" just to make her feel bad.
Jerk
Yeah,
exactly. Why did she ask you that in the first place?
that's sad

I don't know. It seems to be the question of the hour, though.
oh geez, I can't believe that people actually say this.
Its sad that its true, but its worse they tell people.
I would have said this exact thing and watched her stumble to pull her foot back out of her mouth!

It just rubs me the wrong way in general. When DH and I first got married, people asked this all the time. Babies were the farthest thing from our minds back then and it use to drive me nuts.
I wouldn't have, I am on this board because I refuse to show emotions IRL! I am a hard cold biitch and refuse to allow someone to see my weakness! I would've put her on the spot and asked why she felt the need to share that with me and told her that if she didn't want to get pregnant or felt she was not ready then she should've waited! And left it at that!
But chances are that if you say this to a totally clueless person, you'll get the old "oh, you guys just have to relax and it'll happen!"
exactly

See, that's why I have no qualms about letting people know when they over stepped their bounds. I don't mind people asking when we will have kids and I typically give a response similar to yours. But when they reply like she did I'd let her know how long I have been struggling and what we will have to go through to actually have a baby.
My goal is to make people think twice one idiot at a time.
2 years, 2 surgeries, 2 clomid fails, 2 IUIs, 1 loss, IVF #1 - 10/25/10 = BFP!, DS is now 3.5yrs!

I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929
While she didnt know my history, which isn't bad btw, to me it was an ignorant statement to make. That's all. I didn't say anything to her when she said that. So I wasn't hard on her irl. My point really was that her honesty broke my heart.
And then I would promptly let them know about our diagnoses and the medical findings that confirm that we are not able to conceive w/o medical intervention.
Do we have the same SIL? 2 days after she delivered she wanted to go to a bar and get drunk - posted this as her fb update. She has no idea how lucky she is - my other SIL (her sister) who has been trying for years.
Oh of course not. She's not a bad person, but my TTC is not something I would share with her. Or anyone, really. I was just stating that it bothered me.
