How about a confession?   I've done diddly squat today, well, except for bloodwork and two easy hours at work in non-regulation clothes, and I am comtemplating skipping lunch in favor of some chocolate and a nap.  And not cooking dinner tonight, either.  I am such a lazy lump today, and frankly my dears, I don't give a damn. Wink

Enjoy a lazy day, that is what I would do if I were you.  We all need them every now and again.  Mmmm, chocolate.

  • I have one. I'm super nervous to ask this because I've been lurking for a long time and this phrase never gets happy responses: "My cycle is like clockwork."

I have not ready TCOYF but I do understand that ovulation and the various phases of the cycle may be different from month to month. But, if you get your period every 26 days, and have for years (as I have)... Is it fair to say that your PERIOD is like clockwork?

    * I am not on chemical BC, we used condoms. Just in case you were thinking that my regular periods had pharmaceutical help ;)*

    Thanks Ladies!

Hmm you could be getting ready to O now. I have had some spotting before O, but not that much. You might want to try opk's next cycle.

We won't know for sure until we meet with the specialist next week, but the nurse practitioner at DH's doctor seemed to think that they would want to try IUI.  The nurse said that she went through the exact same thing with her DH (who has similar numbers) and they got pregnant with IUI.  At least that was encouraging!!

    Thanks for the support!

There have been lots of girls here who got KTFU on IUI's (also called turkey basters 'round these parts, hope that doesn't offend).  Glad to hear you'll be on the fast track soon!

There's some website out there that Leenie recommended once that a woman ( I think she was a nurse) documented, with pictured, everyday what her cervix looked like. I think it scarred me a little.

    I remember that. Totally frightening.

Remember that site the had pics from ovulation posted--like the first ovulation caught on film ever (the lady I believe was about to have a hysterectomy). That fascinated me for the longest time.

I will say that the beautiful cervix site helped me figure out cervical position.  Other than that, it was a little scary.  I like to keep my dates with a speculum few and far between, if I can help it.  And I don't know that my cervix would be a candidate for glamor shots.  To each their own...

MSC, I also stared at the ovulation pics for like 15 minutes.  They were fascinating, and I can't believe it takes so long to O.  I thought it was like a split second.   That would explain O cramps much better

DH's doctor was on vacation for a long time, and when he FINALLY returned, he explained that there was an error in the test report.  Instead of having 35 million sperm per ML (which is above the cutoff for low sperm count), it was actually 3.5 million.  Love it.  Sad

Ouch!  That is quite the error in the test report, but at least your DH's doctor found it now and not months (or years) down the road.  GL with the urologist and RE!

    Thanks!!!!

My DH's doctors office actually posts the report on the internet.  They don't typically call with the results (unless there is a problem).  We had a few blissful weeks of thinking that at least he was ok. Then the doctor finally called and BAM!

You are right though...at least the Dr. was diligent at going back over the results!!  WHEW!

I'm a newbie and have a question about my chart. It's pretty stable, which I'm thankful for, but I'm hoping i'm gearing up for O soon.  I took clomid days 3-7 this cycle and the obgyn said I should O between 5-10 days of my last pill.....welll unless I O in the next day or so he says it looks like he'll be upping my dosage.  My question: Have any of ya'll taken clomid, and if so have you O'd late?

BTW, thank you so much for posting this play date, I'm scared to post too much the whole flaming thing makes me nervous!

Well yes and no. That sounds like clockwork to me, but the point being made when people get up in arms about it, is that your cycle and body can change at any point in time, without warning.

I think it's fair to say that you have a very regular period, and that is certainly not something to be afraid to say. ;)  What usually gets people about the word "clockwork" is the often standard accompaniment of a complete lack of knowledge when it comes to a woman's body.  The fact that you understand how a cycle works, and that it can vary, puts you at a higher level of understanding than the women who often get flamed.

Just because so many women have variations in their cycles doesn't mean every woman does.  After all, they have to get the 28 day cycle average from somewhere. :)  GL!

What mg of clomid are you on? There have been a handful of girls that it didn't work for at 50mg. Could be that or it could be that you're still gearing up to O. Either way, you're on your way!

I know boxie ovulated later than her doctor expected on clomid and got KU that cycle.

The thing is I was one of those my period is like clockwork prior to going onto bcp and after going off of the bcp and even then there were occasional variances.  I have been keeping track of my period since I first got it.  I tended to range between 26-30 days, since I was 12, but before having DS.  There was a time I could tell you within a couple of hours when my period would start from the start of a cycle.  Now after weaning my son it is kind of a lottery as to when AF will show up next.

So I think you can say usually your cycles are consistent in length I am still leary of claiming it is like clock work.  KWIM?

One more thing to add--I think people get flamed for saying they're like clockwork because theyr'e either saying it because they were on BCP's or they're asking us to tell them if they're pregnant or not ( because we're interenet strangers... we have no idea!)

I think saying your cycle is "usually" on time is a fair thing to say, as long as you're not saying it's clockwork while asking one of the questions explained below.

  • THANK YOU for giving us the freedom to ask whatever comes to mind.  I'm always so nervous posting on this board for fear of being reamed out!!  I always spend a lot of time researching trying to find what I need before asking, and I have a million unanswered questions, or "what if's" that the internet can't help me with, but now I can't think of them all!!

I'm TTC, and I'm on cycle 2... I was on BCP until just before the first cycle, we just immediately started trying, no waiting period.  I have read a ton of articles and websites about TTC after BCP... a ton of "it can take up to a year" (but it can take any woman up to a year and still be in the normal range, right?) - so my question is, what's true, as soon as the hormones from the pills leave my system, I'm fertile... right?  Or is it something more than that?  I'm trying to find reliable sources for this... because on thebump.com, it says that as soon as the pills are out, your fertility will return to where it should be, and other places have said that, and other places have said up to a year, and other places have said 2-3 months for normal fertitility to return.

I know this was horribly redundant, but I feel like I can't explain myself today (rough day).

Thank you for any help... and other people asking questions and being able to read their responses is nice too.

  • Ok, so I have an OPK question... before BCP my cycle was 24 days (10 years ago) and when I came off of it, I had 3 cycles of 28 days, then my last cycle was 26. When should I start POAS? The directions say to start at CD11 with a 28 day cycle, but should I start earlier just in case? I have internet cheapies, but I still don't want to waste too many if there is no point! Thanks for the post!

Another question, if thats ok, I have been doing OPKs for 3 months without any sort of test line. Last week I finally got a line (it was MUCH lighter than the control) but at least it was a line. Is that a good sign at all? Since then I've gotten test lines but still light. I'm pulling at every hope that i'm not onto another cycle of hellish provera and clomid!

The problem is that everyone is different. Some get right off of BCP's and have normal periods and get pregnant, some people take awhile to regulate, and some people have underlying issues they were unaware of, but when they get off BCP's they become more apparent. That's why there's no definitive answer.

My OB recommended being off BCP's for 2 cycles or so before TTC because it takes a little while to get the hormones out of your system and give yourself a healthy lining again.

For as much as this whole TTC thing is a science, it's hard to accept that sometimes they just don't know what's best, what's normal etc.

    Either way... GL to you!

Ok, I really think it just varies from person to person. I think the confusion is because the BCP regulates hormones so some bodies regulate themselves fairly quickly and others do not. Once you stop taking the pill, the hormone levels should drop off to where they are supposed to be, making your body no longer think it is pg, and you are indeed considered fertile at that point. The reason there is such variance in how long it takes, is because it is all dependent on how long your body takes to regulate itself.

It takes most women, whether they were on BCP or not, up to a year to get pg. You only have 20% chance each cycle to get pg, so if you think about it, those odds are not very high so it is not a surprise that it doesn't just happen right away for most people.

Unfortunately, a positive isn't a positive unless it's darker than the control line. Until then I don't think it means much. YOur body could have tried to gear up and O early but didn't--but don't panic. That doesn't mean that it won't. It just means it hasn't yet.

so my question is, what's true, as soon as the hormones from the pills leave my system, I'm fertile... right?  Or is it something more than that?

My answer is that is just depends on you and your body.  Some women get pg immediately off hormonal bc, some women take a few months, some take years.  There's women like me who never regulated after the chemicals and didn't ovulate reliably so had to move to fertility medications.

My best advice would be to chart your cycles.  I am an advocate of BBT charting, but not everyone is interested in that.  At the very least I'd keep track of fertile cm so you have an approximate of when your fertile times should be happening.  This is the only way you'll know if your body is regulating itself after the bcp.  GL!

What's up with my spotting and lack of thermal shift?

oh my god, your chart is totally effing with you. I honestly don't know. It doesn't look like you O'd yet... Have all of your periods have been regular since off BCP? Maybe it's a random leftover weird cycle from that.

I don't think I've O'd yet either. I'm just not sure what to think about all the spotting. It was seriously like AF was coming or going! As for regular cycles, all but one I've O'd on CD 14 or 15. Once I O'd on CD 25 or 27 (it wasn't obvious). I'm afraid it's looking like another "weird" one... My last period only last 1.5 days with 3 days of spotting. That doesn't seem ok. Part of me wonders if it's possible to be pg, while the other part says, "No, your temp dropped, you can't be."
