LO's pedi suggested that we start her on solids at 3 months.. I'm not 100% comfortable giving her solids that early (I wanted to wait till 6 months if possible). I tried google searching some research on introducing solids, but didn't come up with anything really.
What have you read (& where did you read it) about when is the best time to introduce solids?
Also, is anyone planning, or is making their own baby food? Tell me about it!
kthx
Re: Let's discuss solids, shall we?
I thought it was!
That's what he suggests for every child.. it's on the paperwork he hands out. He is probably flexible about it since he was very accepting of my suggestion of putting LO on an alternative sch. for her shots.
We are switching pedi's anyway.. moving plus (this may not be strange but it's new to me) they offer ear piercing at the clinic for $25.. they have flyers posted everywhere about it.. it just didnt sit well with me.
We started SLOWLY introducing solids at 4 months. DS had a little oatmeal (rice doesn't sit well with him) to start with once every few days and then started introducing veggies and fruit.
This week we have moved to 2 meals of solids a day and he is now to the point where he enjoys eating them and does well opening his mouth for the spoon and swallowing.
I haven't heard many pediatricians recommending solids (except for reflux) for babies under 4 months.
I had good intentions of making baby food for my first two children and bought a baby food processor - but sadly - it was too much work for our busy lifestyle and I never did it very often. The gerber premade baby food was too convenient. I may try again - but this time I will have to get a baby food cookbook - I think if I had had one before I might have been more apt to continue making my own food.
Unless there is a really good reason for starting at 3 months I certainly wouldn't. I am waiting till 6 months. I know sometimes there is a reason for it like reflux but it seems a bit early to recomend something like that at 2 weeks!
Kellymom has some info about starting solids:

Wholesome baby food has good info about making your own baby food:

I've never heard 3mo before, I'd really suggest waiting. We started at 4mo and it took a little while before she got the hang of it.
I love making her food! I use wholesomebabyfood.com (maybe .org?). It's so easy! A great one to start with is sweet potatoes. You bake them like you would regular potatoes, then cut them in half or whatever and scrape the "meat" of the potato out, everything but the skin. Throw it in a food processor (I've heard a blender will work too) add a little water and puree. Add water as needed. You'll want it to be pretty thin to begin with. If you decide it's too thin, you can always add a little rice or oatmeal to thicken it up again. I've also made butternut squash, carrots, apples, pears.
Bananas and avacados are great, no cooking required. Freeze them in ice cube trays and pull cubes as needed!

My pedi said three months too, for rice cereal only. I also thought it was early and he was fine with waiting for four months and said that he only recommends a wait where there is a history of food allergies.
I like the Mayo Clinic s a resource https://www.mayoclinic.com/health/healthy-baby/PR00029 (sorry I have firefox - won't link).
