For some reason I vaguely remember reading that some face products were not safe to use during pregnancy. I always use a Neutrogena wash in the shower, Noxema, and Oil of Olay lotion but I am wondering if it's okay to use firming eye cream (ex. by Estee Lauder) and topical treatments by Philosophy that have retinol in them. Anyone know?
Re: Are some face products unsafe to use?
Retinol and Salicylic Acid are the ones that are supposed to be avoided. After doing a bunch of research it seems that the big concern is oral (i.e. Accutane, aspirin) not topical forms of these chemicals as they have been shown to cause birth defects. The only thing you want to watch out for is if you are using something that has these chemicals that sits on your skin for an extended period of time (masks, peels, etc) since then the chemicals have an increased potential of being absorbed into your blood stream.
As with anything else if you have doubts ask your OB at your next appt.
